zucchini

I chopped up some summer squash that got too big to eat, and the chicks loved it! Next, I'll try zucchini.....thanks!

As for cantaloupe, mine love the fleshy insides. One of them grabbed a huge hunk and ran around with it for a while, then swallowed it whole. I worried about an impacted crop! But all is ok!

On the chicken treat list, it said that they may not have a taste for it, but we decided to try it anyways.

I cut it into two, and they started at the seeds first. Then they started to eat the green and the outside. It's funny to watch. Once one of them get a seed, they run away from the others so she doesn't have to share, lol

The chicken treat list was made by a member and not completely accurate. There have been issues also with it saying that feeding scratch raises their body temp and there have been several heated conversations on that due to people seeing that list and wondering about it on the board and then being told (not always in a kind way) that it's a myth.

We always get too much zucchini so I'll be sure to give some to the chickens when we get some. DH always gets the garden planted late (he's a crop farmer and pretty busy with the cash crops in the spring) so ours is just getting tiny zucchinis on right now.

No one told our chicks that they don't like zucchini. They think it's nature's perfect food.

my chicks love zucchini as well on thing I do for them for fun is cut in half, then string it up so the open end is just above head height, (so they have to stretch a little..). from the solid end, they love to peck the center out of the zuc's and it spins and bounces back and forth between them for a good game...

Mine don't care for either one if I give them in chunks or slices, but I chop them into tiny bits in my food processor and it's ON!! I use both the yellow squash and zucchini. We garden, so they also get Swiss Chard chopped up with it sometimes. (I give them the stuff that gets too big to use) Good, rich, nutricious foods, that would have been wasted otherwise ........ what a RUSH!! LOL

HA!!! Thank you! I haven't tried zucchini but it's on the menu now! Just recently had to pen my girls because of a preditor so it's back to chopping greens like I do in the winter.

They LOVE cucumber, lettuce, kale, beat greens, watermelon, grapes, celery leaves, and on and on. Pumpkins make great toys too. Now to add the zucchini!
