My only hen is starting to lay, two eggs in four days so far. I am planning to incubate them and was wondering how long I can keep the eggs until popping them in? And how should I store them until incubation time?
At least you are capable of getting my little play on words joke!
The post in which I responded to was rude to start with. By implying that there was something wrong with vegetarianism (comparing us to cows). I knew what word the poster was wanting to use but couldn't pass up the chance to...
Snuvy-you have to be prepared with a least one other brooder (or the ability to set up soon).
I prefer to separate my bantams from my large fowl. If you get any non-chickens you will need to eventually separate them out.
Turkeys can stay with chicks for a while; they are kind of dumb...
I encourage my hens to go broody! I mark the eggs they are sitting on so in case another hen decides to lay an egg in there. I used to leave my broody hens in the regular coop. But as my numbers have increased I put broody hens in special broody pens. Helps decrease the number of chicks my...
I have had two orders from Cackle this spring. One in April, one in June. And I *might* order another surprise later this year. I generally do all my communication via email and sometimes chatted on FB. I can't usually use the telephone when they are open.
My surprise is great too! I have always had great communication, great birds, and positive experiences with Cackle and it blows my mind that it seems to vary so much. Maybe all hatcheries are that way. IDK b/c I have only ever ordered from one other hatchery, all my chicks died of a mystery...
I have never tried to break a broody. If you want to break her I would leave her crate where she can see the other chickens and be seen by them. That will help her transition back to the flock be smoother. Where are you located? Somebody might be able to provide you with some fertile eggs.
I requested no meat birds in mine b/c last year some people got tons of broilers and several people received bb turkeys. I didn't get any bantams, but if you get bantams I am assuming they would have to pack one square of the box with them so you would get 15-25 depending on the type and the...
could be. Three have straight combs and are Lakevelders. I cannot account for one of them. But mutant chick's legs are yellow and these chicks have blackish legs. I also cannot account for the tiny white chick that I got. I know I lost one but for the life of me cannot remember which one.
