My 9 year old but what has me upset is that he waited until she had her back to him and he came from behind and attacked with both feet.
She had gone to the coop and let everyone out, they all filed past as she held the door open, as the last one came out she went to step in the run area and did...
We also use the pine...the girls will pick up pieces and rearrange the nest while they get ready to lay. I kind of recycle the pine by moving the shaving from nesting box to floor of coop and refilling the nesting boxes with fresh....I feel like I am getting double use that way.
I have 3 hens and a Roo...In April I let each child pic a chick at the local feed store, we got 2 Roos and a hen....in Aug. we Re-homed one of the Roos and purchased 2 more hens, one was 16 weeks and the other was 18. This has quite an education! I have never owned chickens before. A little...
Please excuse my lack of knowledge on this but does this mean you are saying she could likely not lay all fall and winter, and if so, is this something all chickens do? Think I need to go google this lol.
Hi Momma,
I am in Wildomar also....got my first baby chicks back in April and 2 have just started laying. I am such a newbie, not sure I can be much help. I have 1 Easter Egger, a Red sex link and a Cochin and one RIR Roo.
Today my EE Hawk 'Pecked" me when I took her egg. She has never done that before...(ok it was 9th egg so she has not been laying that long) but...I am assuming that is normal behavior or is she going to go broody on me so quickly? First time chicken owner so lots I do not know.
It was curious to me that she has not once gone up there and checked out Hawk while she is laying her eggs. Also she and Cutie Pie have been squaring off for top hen which at the present Cutie Pie is hanging on to that position.....Wondering if that could be why she was so interested.
