Would anyone here with lavender, black or blue Orps ship to Seattle around April? I will be heading into the states to visit extended family around then and want to look into bringing some eggs back with me
lav roo front right of group, lav hen to left and lav hen behind him. the rest unrelated grey and splashes. these lavs are a few generations descended from HinkJCs, still have a lot of maturing to do. This is half of my lav orps, one roo and 2 pullets not in photo.
my only bantam ee is just starting to lay at 6 months old, so far 5 eggs in 6 days! even with the temps hovering around freezing (even going to -6 some nights). I dont have heat or lights in their coop, there is 6 of them (3 ameraucanas, 3 mixes) that cuddle together at night and they have been...
deffinatly a little cockerel, and sorry to say i agree with the posts saying he looks sickly. Also agreed that non-dominant roosters will not crow, which is probably why he is mostly mute. I have Japanese who are housed in a nice little coop with a 5X10 dirt run (muddy when it rains etc) and...
agree with what has been said!
my australorp rooster is a godsend for his laides, he warns them if any flying predators are around while free ranging and they hide, he calls them over for yummy tidbits and watches them enjoy, he stops them fighting amongst themselves when i add in new ladies...
my whole family thinks im crazy...chicken crazy, i wont deny it
luckily my OH understands, as hes just as crazy about fish (im almost as crazy about fish to tho) so we let each other indulge a little to heavily in our hobbies (to the tune of 200 chickens on my end and 550 gallons of saltwater...
the chicken color calculator says mille fleur bred to blue would give blue and black offspring
if you enter the colors here you can play with different cominations.

thought id also add i am really hoping that i can get the cement foundation poured in the next month and get started on the framing, i have a team of three, me my bf and my dad! I have the $ for the foundation and by next month can buy the appropriate framing materials. luckily my dad has lots...
so my dad is finally fed up with me taking up his entire barn for chicken rearing purposes, which i previously used all of for my competition horses (he thought he got it back when i stopped competing horses and downsized...then i got into chickens). SOOOO i must put up a new building for my...

OK! Since there wasn't an overwhelming response to these birds I'm gonna.
Don't wear your personal feelings on your sleeve please.
Faverolles in Canada have never been plentiful. There was, at one time, a few bantam breeders but not large fowl.
Therefore, sometimes what you have to use...

Thanx for the imput, i was leaning towards the first cockeral as well due to coloring (and he has a decent comb, 6 points, its not very even but its all i have to work with), hes a little slower to develop than the other boy but has a ways to go. they are only 5 months. I have one...
ETA: of course im hoping for a black or two to use for my lav orp breeding project hopefully i finally got a black.
any guesses if these are blue or black? they of course hatched from blue orp eggs, but im having trouble telling what color they will be, last time i thought i had a black at...
would like some feedback on these faverolles if anyone could help out they are nearly impossible to find in canada, so these are from a hatchery . the first photo is 2 pullets, the one one left is terrible (so much black) i wont be keeping her, but the one on the right is better (still not...

i would venture to guess its the same as my situation, the chickens eat and then poop all over the good "nutrients" in their pens so they die, and if you let them out to get what their missing out on, the predators eat them. not really worth the risk.
looks to me the one on the right is a boy (both my boys feathered in so slowly) and the one on the right *could* be a girl. again im no expert as im just growing my first orps, but i agree with the comment that they are still in the "project" phase so depending on the line will mature at...
hard to tell much from those photos, you need to have them standing normally to get an idea on conformation. the rooster has a poor comb, there should be 5 even points. they dont appear to have much mottling (age could have something to do with that).
it was a bantam white crested black polish ROO X PR hen here she is with her Australorp daddy babies. Only 4 photographed, 3 have tophats, there were 8 but the other 4 were raccoon food she was almost raccoon food to, i was surprised i was able to nurse her back to health as she had...
