You did good by starting with 3. My first go round was with about 40! My son and daughter showed at a county fair....I processed the ones that didn't make show. It took me forever! I did it in 2 days. But we enjoyed the meat for a couple months. Glad it went so well for u!!
raising meat birds and show birds are totally different....show birds should NEVER be exposed to sun light, hard surfaces or outside elements. I know from yrs of showing....
I forgot...for our brooder I section off part of the coop with pieces of old plywood and hang a heat lamp over them....so when they are big enough I just remove the plywood.
I wouldn't do a tractor because they will bruside their breasts on the ground...you have to have the shavings VERY...
...But our coop is enclosed and insulated so we just cut a hole in the side and attached a window unit a/c. We monitor the temp and keep it around 70* once they get big. My 10 yr old is the one that shows and he LOVES it. He does all the feeding, watering, and raking the shavings. First...
Tonite is High School football...so it'll be concession stand food....but last nite was grilled chicken breasts, pasta salad, corn and strawberry pretzel salad...yummmm....
We had the same issue and it ended up being a possum...darn possum was getting all the eggs. I went months w/out finding an egg. Set a trap and caught a possum. Now with 9 hens I get 7 eggs a day...that musta been one fat possum!!!!!!!!!!
Has anyone tried Cowboy Stew.....
1 lb ground hamburger meat, browned and drained
1 large can of corn, drained
2-3 large cans of ranchstyle beans, not drained (3 cans if you need to stretch the meal)
Heat all together and serve!!! My kids like to add louisiana hot sauce and fritos to it.
If you want a good variety of pics on these birds just google each breed. You will get more pics than you know what to do with!!!
Are these the breeds that you are looking at getting? Cochins are beautiful!! All of the breeds you are looking at are very pretty....hard decision.
I'm just as bad. We have 23 assorted chickies that are 5 weeks old and I went to the feed store and they had banty babies!!!!!!! Now we have a seperate brooder with 12 little assorted banties!!! I'm soooo excited!
I'm not getting the snow but we are getting low 40s during the day with 30 and below at nite!!! My pepper and tomato plants are not looking so good...and the 35mph winds are beating down what IS coming up!!! The bad part about it is that I'm in TEXAS!!! We should already have the a/c going...
Congrats!!! I'm glad you are home and able to move around. My last baby was 4 weeks early and still weighted 9lbs 9ozs!!! I didn't even want to walk on my own!
We don't have the same option for the chicken pox vaccination. Our children have to have it to enter school. The school nurse told me the state is considering a booster for it when the child turns 14.

Amen to that! And in this economy, you've got to take what you can get while you can get it!
No kidding. We had a covered deck built not long ago. I called everyone in the book. Only 2 people actually came out and out of the 2 only 1 person called me back with a quote!!! I was sooo...
My advice:
1. I don't give mine grit because they have access to the outside world and peck and pick up what they need.
2. I have always used DE as a supplement to their feed. Just a few spoonfuls mixed in and stirred well. It coats their feed and makes it look like powdered donuts!! I...
