My flock and an FFA kid( across town) are have some strange issues. Several birds have began to stumble and act drunk. They eat and drink OK but cant stand. It is both hens and roos of different ages and breeds. Some have been vaccinated for Marecks so I ruled that out.
We both feed 50/50...
Hi,
I got ducks for the "cute factor" and for garden pest control. I have 1 hen who lays 6 egg a week like clockwork. At first all eggs went in the incubator but now what. I am not sure how to use the eggs. We tried frying and scrambled but the texture didn't go over well. I would love to hear...
How long do runner duck eggs stay viable to hatch? I have been collecting for three days and I want to set as many at once as I can.
Also any other tips for a first time duck hatcher( I have done chickens many times) would be great.
Thanks
Ok so I have this one laying hen and need to set eggs.I have found info on temps, humidity, and so on but nothing on how long an egg can sit before going into the incubator. I know chicken eggs stay viable for 10 days and have even hatched egg that were 14 days old.
My question is how long can...
In Dec I took in 3 rescue hens from bad living conditions. One suffered from severe lung issues and did not recover. I kept the remaining 2 in quarantine for 90 days and they recovered nicely .I introduced them to my flock in early April. Now several (most)of my flock have a gurgle when they...
I'm on day 21 and have one egg that is developed, moving, and started tapping. The problem is the air cell is free floating. Is there anything I can or should be doing?
I ordered 1 female turkey from my local feed store. They are getting "holiday" whites and bronze varieties. I will not be butchering and want this bird to be a pet and live with my chickens.Which breed would be better adapted for my needs or does it even matter?
Thanks,
I have several hens trying to go broody. One I gave up on( she is really mean about it) and moved her to a holding pen so she can have some peace and quiet. The others I want to stop. I have been pushing them off the nest, stealing the eggs, and generally being a nuisance when ever possible. Any...
I am trying to build a summer coop in the garden for 8-10 birds( mostly bantams). My question is how much head room do I need to leave above the roosts? Also what is the lowest off the floor can they be? I need to keep this house as compact as possible and it will only be used at night because...
Late last night a friend of mine showed up at my place with 3 hens. He rescued them from another friend who "just wanted them gone". The original owner had them in a 3 sided shed, no bedding, snow for water and only fed cracked corn.It has been -40 with heavy snow and high winds for the last...
I have a roo that isn't doing his job. He seems to be a 1 woman man. Over the last 9 months I have set eggs from his flock four times and each time only 1 hen is fertile(different ones each time). He has between 8- 12 hens (most are last springs chicks) and no competition. They have 16+ hrs of...
I picked up 3 muscovies yesterday and one has a problem. He is a mature drake and in good condition but his left leg is swollen almost double.there are no scratches or abrasions, and the bones feel ok. He won't put weight on it but manages to get around. It doesn't appear broken, the joints do...
I've looked for the answer and can't find it so I figured I'd just ask. I saw a chart explaining what you get if you cross dark layers to blue layers but what if your roo is a white layer? I have EE, OE, and dark brown layer hens, my roo is a white layer breed. Does anyone know what that will do...
This is my rooster, and he is in with about 20 assorted hens. RIR, wellsummer, speckled sussex, white, mille fluer, barred, blue, buff, black, red laced on blue, black laced on white, and a few EE of chocolate/red/brown.( no splash hens of coarse, that would be to easy.lol)
I want to get more of the...
I am looking at getting my hubby some red gold pheasants but have a quick question. I've heard that you can't keep chickens and pheasants together because of disease, is this true. Everyone would be housed separately but there always seems to be some intermingling (adventuring rouge chickens)...
I have a mix of old rescue hens and young pullets (mostly not laying) 24 girls and I average 3 good shelled eggs a day. The problem is about every 5 days someone is laying 1 that looks like a snake egg. the first had a thin membrane around it, the second was leathery, and the last one kinda...
Is grass hay ok for ducks in the winter? I am getting 30 bales of last years "good" grass hay (to old for horses) I will be using it as bedding in the chicken coop. Could I also use it as forage for my muscovy? Its a little dusty but not bad.
