I have a mature roo who tries to call me over to the treats. He's never been aggressive aggressive towards me. He makes sure the girls know when I'm coming and then he does a little prance until I throw treats down. Then he calls me. I think it's a "thank you, lets share" kind of thing. He's the...
I'm thinking it might be a bad quality silkie after comparing the feathers to ones I've seen online. It has slate legs and a yellow beak so if it is a silkie I don't see how Ideal can say they breed to standard.
So I got a bantam special and ended up with some "special" chicks. The possible silkie has a leg that sticks straight out behind it. Hobbled since they got here on Thursday and there isn't much improvement. I am feeding her and she drinks if I dip her beak. I am using a small towel to hold her...
I decided to get EEs when I first started keeping chickens because I wanted a good mix of different looking birds. They were a great range of colors and personalities. Out of that flock the EEs were easily my favorites. They were friendly, smart, and quite pretty. Our best rooster was the EE...
They no longer have poultry at our county fair. Large displays with photos and such but no live birds. I have to say I was relieved and impressed.
Edited to say oops....no dates are showing on my app.
I used the phrase "It's a baby" in a soothing and soft tone for everything my pup had to be gentle with. My pup is now a full grown pittie who is fast enough to catch my fastest birds if they happen to sneak out of the run. She holds them gently for me to retrieve while making the same sounds...
I have ordered from Meyer 6 times now. I've never lost a chick. I've never had a sickly chick either. I pick them up myself since I only live an hour away. When I pick them up they always confirm my order, open the box to do a count, and ask me to check the chicks to make sure I'm satisfied with...
It doesn't matter when you order them, only when you receive them. I usually put my orders in as soon as they start taking orders for the next spring and pick them up in April. This year I got a spring batch and a fall batch. You will have to order more through winter months with most...
I'm keeping mine inside through the winter due to laziness. They are a bit younger than yours, hatched on the 18th. Wecome to BYC and don't worry too much.
They do free range all day. She is higher in the pecking order so I don't think it's a matter of the other hens making her wait to use a favored nest. She actually brought a few hens up and showed them her nest on the porch. Thankfully none of them seem interested. It just baffles me as to why...
She tries to get in the house very morning to lay her egg. I don't know why. She fusses and fusses for a couple of hours, begging at the front door. She will finally lay in a crate that I set up on the front porch trying to appease her. Why won't this girl lay in the nest boxes in the coop like...
