    Broody Hen - Duck eggs?

Easter, my Americana hen has been broody for about three weeks now. I have been leaving at least one of Amble's (Wyandotte) eggs in the nest. I am getting fertile DUCK eggs tomorrow. My question is: can I put a couple in her nest and how long will she stay broody? Do they give up after about 30...

    Post Traumatic Stress?

I had four runners. One was taken by a skunk two months ago (it was horrible). Now the female that witnessed it has not layed an egg yet! It's been two months and she used to lay an egg every day. Is this unusual? I'm beginning to think she will NEVER lay again. Two of my chickens were...

    can ducks get ticks??

I was just feeding my drake (an inside duck until spring). Actually he goes out for a couple of hours a day. Anyway, seems like there is a big tick on his neck. Is this possible being December? Will it drop off or should I tweezer and flush. UGH

    Will ducks come back??

We have a cottage in the Berkshires on a lake. If I let the ducks out to swim, will they stick around? Can I coax them in with treats? Can they outswim a dog? These are runners. What about boats - are they fast in the water? I mean, no one's going to aim for them or anything (I hope), but...

    Vitamins and Electrolytes

When would you use this and what is the formula. It is an 8 oz dry package and says to use 1/2 package to 55 gallons of drinking water. Isn't there a formula for a cup of water? Only have two ducklings due in two days. Or is this not appropriate at all?

    Disgusting pond

I have a disgusting stagnant pond in the back yard. It is filled with funny bugs and some frogs in clay soil. My question, will it hurt my ducks if they happen to get into it? BTW I have a wonderfully filtered pond in the front with fish. Just wondering.

How do you know when you have a duck egg "quitter"?

I have duck eggs (on the 13th day of incubating) and they all have dark blobs and looks like some have air pocket on the sides. They don't seem to be moving at all. Do they get a blood ring this late or how do you tell if they are quitters? Thanks
