    Bantam Easter Eggers

my only bantam ee is just starting to lay at 6 months old, so far 5 eggs in 6 days! even with the temps hovering around freezing (even going to -6 some nights). I dont have heat or lights in their coop, there is 6 of them (3 ameraucanas, 3 mixes) that cuddle together at night and they have been...

Looks Like a Boy, Clucks Like a Girl?? [Lost of Photos]

deffinatly a little cockerel, and sorry to say i agree with the posts saying he looks sickly. Also agreed that non-dominant roosters will not crow, which is probably why he is mostly mute. I have Japanese who are housed in a nice little coop with a 5X10 dirt run (muddy when it rains etc) and...

    Help please?

agree with what has been said! my australorp rooster is a godsend for his laides, he warns them if any flying predators are around while free ranging and they hide, he calls them over for yummy tidbits and watches them enjoy, he stops them fighting amongst themselves when i add in new ladies...

my whole family thinks im crazy...chicken crazy, i wont deny it luckily my OH understands, as hes just as crazy about fish (im almost as crazy about fish to tho) so we let each other indulge a little to heavily in our hobbies (to the tune of 200 chickens on my end and 550 gallons of saltwater...

    Faverolles Thread

Quote: OK! Since there wasn't an overwhelming response to these birds I'm gonna. Don't wear your personal feelings on your sleeve please. Faverolles in Canada have never been plentiful. There was, at one time, a few bantam breeders but not large fowl. Therefore, sometimes what you have to use...

    Faverolles Thread

Quote: Thanx for the imput, i was leaning towards the first cockeral as well due to coloring (and he has a decent comb, 6 points, its not very even but its all i have to work with), hes a little slower to develop than the other boy but has a ways to go. they are only 5 months. I have one...

    Faverolles Thread

would like some feedback on these faverolles if anyone could help out they are nearly impossible to find in canada, so these are from a hatchery . the first photo is 2 pullets, the one one left is terrible (so much black) i wont be keeping her, but the one on the right is better (still not...

is this a black austrolorp rooster?

ill third the SLW pullet vote, shouldnt have a single comb, but they do pop up sometimes (more in hatchery birds).

2010 Buff Orp, Light Sussex & Ameraucana pics what do you think?

Quote: i would venture to guess its the same as my situation, the chickens eat and then poop all over the good "nutrients" in their pens so they die, and if you let them out to get what their missing out on, the predators eat them. not really worth the risk.

    Lavender Orpington project ....

looks to me the one on the right is a boy (both my boys feathered in so slowly) and the one on the right *could* be a girl. again im no expert as im just growing my first orps, but i agree with the comment that they are still in the "project" phase so depending on the line will mature at...

what do you think of these mottled cochn bantams ?

hard to tell much from those photos, you need to have them standing normally to get an idea on conformation. the rooster has a poor comb, there should be 5 even points. they dont appear to have much mottling (age could have something to do with that).

    Tell me about Tophats...

it was a bantam white crested black polish ROO X PR hen here she is with her Australorp daddy babies. Only 4 photographed, 3 have tophats, there were 8 but the other 4 were raccoon food she was almost raccoon food to, i was surprised i was able to nurse her back to health as she had...
