Thank you! I wasn't planning on clipping yet. I know they're a little cramped and flapping around escaping their box. Oddly enough, my EE is the first escapee and the 2nd was a RIR. Thanks for the tip on one vs both wings. I wondered about that because they may need to escape a coon or a snake...
This is what I have been doing with mine and even my 7yo does it. A couple of the chicks will sit in the laps of my kids. My 3yo won't hold his hand long enough to let them eat from it, but he throws food to them, so they're getting used to him. They're almost 4 weeks old now. Hubs is still...
We've thought about bees too, but hubs is afraid of them, so no bees yet. Maybe one day.
@wavechickens My friendliest bird is one of my ameraucana! lol. I'd heard that they were flighty. My 2nd friendly is a RIR. As each day goes by, I'm more and more certain that my one Barred Rock is a...
My girls are growing fast! I'm planning to go get the wood for our new coop tomorrow and plan to have it done or nearly there by the weekend. One of mine is starting to fly a bit and she likes to be up high. She even flew up on my arm tonight. I think she's one of our EE.
I just feel like such a failure over this. We talked about building a coop to start with and scrapped the idea when we saw these. Now we're screwed because husband burned the box and we can't return it. He's made because we now also have to spend the money to build one on top of it.
That is our plan. We're going to use it as a grow out pen as well. I guess a bit more research would have helped, but we were going by what we had seen on their website.
We're in WV, so quite a bit south from you! My dad is in upstate NY and it's still pretty cold up there too. We could still get a cold snap before May though.
It
It was. http://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/innovation-pet-deluxe-farm-house-chicken-coop-up-to-8-chickens This is the one we got. I had looked at the red barn and saw it said 8 chickens, and this was originally stated on the website as 8 to 10...yeah right. We picked it up for under...
Well, my chickies are growing fast! 3 weeks old now and getting tons of feathers! Funniest thing happened today. We put our chicks out in the pen while it was sunny and 73 for about an hour this afternoon. The little twerp we thought was a cockerel decided that he would try to CROW at my kids...
It's 3x7 exterior and 1x3 interior.
Hubs and I have decided to build a 4x8 ourselves and use the existing one for a grow-out pen for our littles. They are 3 weeks old now and I think should be pretty well feathered out by next week so we can put them in it during the day and in at night...
I don't have any old ones. We are tearing down an old barn on the property and are going to utilize a portion of it that is still stable. I will also have the old Barnwood to build with when I'm done.
@LuvnEnglishOrps Our coop that we bought from TSC was said to hold 8 to 10 chickens. Well, now that it is built and the box says 8, we're second guessing if we need more room for our 12. I was only supposed to get 10 lol. I may do the TSC trade at some point. My 7yo would kill me if I got rid of...

I have this coop. I bought 12 chicks (chicken math) and they are 3 weeks old. When I bought it, I was told the coop would hold up to 10. Pretty sure I have 1 rooster. That would leave me with...
I don't at the moment. I could probably find something. Looking at getting an old pack n play from a friend to put them in. We have the coop kit but haven't gotten it together due to weather. Still worried about weather for chicks but I think in a week or so they'll he okay to go outside.
We have 12 chicks. All are about 3 weeks old and are starting to get crowded in our Rubbermaid container. We were trying to decide if we could out them in 2 tubs and then put them back together once we get the coop together for them. Would there be a problem with reintroducing them to each...
Yeah I'm really hoping he doesn't decide they are tasty snacks. He's generally kept away from them. If he's around, it's close supervision and high praise for leaving them the f*** alone! Lol
I introduced my 10-year-old lab to the chicks today. It was absolutely HILARIOUS!! He didn't know whether to eat them, play with them, or run away. I have 12 chicks and a 10-chicken coop that I still need to put together. I plan to let them have time to free range though when they get a bit...
