Good morning Texas thread.
I too have black widows, and have learned to first flip things over and look before I pick up anything, Another thing I've learned is to identify their webs, which are very disorganized and haphazardly built, unlike the symmetrical webs of the big yellow & black...
I agree ange92040, it took me a while to learn that chicken wire is useless if used lower down!!! Dogs, coyotes & coons can chew right through it. Now my hen yard is surrounded with chain link and my hen house is surrounded with 1" by 1/2" wire from the ground up to about 2 1/2 feet. Chicken...
I have a pen of mixed breeds and in the last week have been getting mint green eggs with LOTS of brown spots. They are so pretty.
Glad to see your's Peach!!! Aren't we lucky!!
The eggs are so pretty, sometimes I just leave them on my kitchen counter for a few days to look at...seems a shame...
has a most beautiful rich torquise inner shell. Hope to find out soon who's laying these
I had a lady who layed an egg like this. Don't know if I lost her to predators or if her cycle changed. But haven't seen any like this for quite a while.
One of the most beautiful eggs to break open...
Is it possible to get on you list for these eggs?
I have a small flock of lav ams and would like to add a flock of wheaten/bl wheaten Ameraucana.
Thank you.
Welcome bj, I too live just south of Ft. Worth, 'bout 30 miles'.
As heavenly says, misters are a good idea to help the flock cool down.
When the summer heat sets in you might also want to put out some shallow pans/tubs of water for your flock to wade in. Some folks use kiddie swimming pools...
kailmarie,
How old are your wellies? How much time did they spend in your coop before you let them out into their yard? Do you have a 'night light' in your coop? (some do, some don't)
Several years ago I had a few pullets that wouldn't 'coop-up' at night, ....come dark, they preferred to...
Thank you Peter!!!
I believe your new page will help many folks who are looking into raising Faverolles.
A little bit of knowledge goes a long way and saves a lot of Faverolles from ignorance (mine included).
I used to think all chickens acted the same way and had no idea different breeds...
Thank you Sandkilaws and pfmerlin for your information.
I truly wish I'd known this in 2010. Before I found BYC I didn't know very much about faverolles. Choose to order them because of their pretty fuzzy faces, but Ideal Poultry didn't give any info on their sweet/docile/more fragile...
OnAdobeRoad and Nambroth,
I got my first Faverolles chicks in 2010 from Ideal Poultry in Cameron TX. I've had many different breeds through the years and found the Hatchery Faverolles to be more fragile than other breeds. Both the roo and hens were easily bullied by just about all the other...
Welcome to BYC and the Texas thread!! Glad to have you join us.
A number of years ago I had a cat that was diagnosed with histoplasmoisis, but she was never around my chickens...they were 30 miles apart. The Vet did talk about chickens being a cause, but as long as one uses common...
