    Idaho?

Just depends on where around Kuna you live. The husband's daughter is in some new houses and the HOA doesn't allow "farm animals" and even just hens are considered farm animals. Here in Buhl, I heard chickens all around me, so got some. When we moved from s.e. Montana, I brought my registered...

3 wk chick with mareks. Should I get rid of the rest of the chicks and just start over vaccinated o

I've never bought vaccinated chicks in 15+ yrs of having chickens and have not had a problem. I would send the one in to see if it IS Mareks. If it's not, then you have nothing to worry about that particular disease. I would ask them to figure out what the bird has tho. If it does have Mareks...

    Sick Chicks

Ask your vet what the pull (throw away) time on the eggs are. I know a site that gives the pull time of antibiotics, wormers & other meds for dairy cattle and goats but chickens aren't listed. IDahoLaura

Goat Feeding Question - free choice hay?

Quote: Do you have them on any pasture at all? Also, how many flakes fill their small trough? Is your hay alfalfa, grass or a mix? Until I know that, can't advise you on how to feed their roughage. Cut the grain totally. Even tho they are growing, since they are obese, they don't need the...

    Oh My God They're Teenagers!!

Mine too....have 4 roosters and 8 pullets that are 4 mths old now. This past week the black roosters have been trying to perfect their crow and jump the pullets. They must figure the hens will nail them, because they leave the old gals alone. Got my first brown pullet egg today also! IDLaura

Quote: When I lived in Ekalaka (120 miles s.e. of Miles City) I went to the local grocery store to order Red Devil after the crystal lye had been pulled from the shelves. They could only get liquid lye. I went to Big R in Billings and Murdoch's in Miles City, at different times, and they were...

    Murry McMurry Hatchery?

Quote: thats odd... Most of their breeds you can order 1-100 last time I checked. I have seen some where the minimum is 25! I personally live in a little town, big house small yard, close to my neighbors (like heyy I can watch the neighbors watch their TV close! Not that I do that... ) so I...

    Who else has experienced a terrible ratio with a straightrun . . . .

Quote: Yepper, I am one of those that can usually pick mostly pullets, so that leaves more roosters. I'm sure there are enough people like me that it stacks the deck against other, less knowledgeable people. The farm store they got the chicks from is run by people with little knowledge of...

Hello from SoCal! We think we want chickens!

Don't think too hard about it....it'll give you a headache! My chickens and registered dairy goats are my sanity from being a full time caregiver of my husband. The chickens are amazing, funny, irritating, smart, all rolled into one....I really enjoy mine! IDLaura

    Lemon orpingtons M or F?

An old man who raised thousands of chickens all his life told me to look at wing feathers. Pullets show tiny wing feathers starting on day one....cockerels start about day 3. I've raised only a couple hundred or so in the past 15 yrs, but when I get day old laying or meat chicks, I've been...

    Lemon orpingtons M or F?

My guess is: Pic #1 is a cockerel Pic #2 is a pullet and Pic #3 is a cockerel There are no pics for numbers 4 and 5. I do better on day old chicks than older ones. With #1 and #3 having shorter wing feathers, that's why I'm just guessing they are cockerels. Gonna have to wait a bit longer...
