Out of six eggs at lockdown, four hatched.
The fourth needed an assist and I'm wondering if you guys can help deduce why. The chick had picked away a good hole in the egg shell, to the point that you could see the chick well. The membranes dried and trapped it, though, and it couldn't get...
I have two out of their shells now and drying. Got another working his way out and a fourth has pipped but hasn't got far yet. I think we can expect the fifth to get started at any time and the sixth I think might have been a late quitter but I'll give it a little bit to make sure.
They have...
Thanks guys. Mylied, I started counting after 24 hours, making this day 20 (though my hatcher app insists otherwise).
I didn't take the wait for my babies well either. Patience is a virtue I'm short on! FridayYet, I haven't but I may. I'm not sure what I'm looking for with drawdown. Your babies...
Somebody talk me down. We're at day 20 and I'm seeing no changes and the 'bator window feels awful small the longer this goes. Normal to not have pips yet or no? They're Brahmas, if that makes a difference.
My original batch did the same thing. I ended up having to toss 14 eggs, only two of which grew at all. I don't know what to tell you about this batch except check them all and toss the bad ones and for the next round, invest in the little fan attachment. Supposedly it makes a big difference.
I'll have lost my mind by the time this is over. Day 19 and waiting for pips. I keep trying to remind myself that this could be as much as a 24 day thing but it's as bad as waiting those last couple weeks of pregnancy. It feels like nothing will ever happen!
Congratulations on all the hatches...
Shipped. There's two with slightly odd air cells so I'll do that.
I'm in Florida so our ambient moisture has kept the incubator humidity up between 40%-50%. We just got a cold front, though, and that dries us out. So with all that in mind should I still try to keep the humidity high for...
I'm freaking out! Tomorrow starts lock down and I have no idea by looking at these guys how to tell if they're in the right position or whether they'll pip a good spot or anything. There's six that made it this far and the worry is driving me crazy.
Okay. Day 10/11. Out of 18 eggs total (14 in Green Batch, buff laced Brahmas, and 4 silver laced Brahmas in Purple Batch), we have six dancers, one maybe, and one definite recent quit, all in Green Batch. It was so cool! In one of them I could see the blood near the embryo pulse brighter as his...
We've got about two more weeks but we're in the same boat, it seems. Best case we're looking at 8-10 out of 18. I won't even entertain a worst-case.
Best of luck this weekend!
Please tell me Green J isn't quitting on me already!
Including Green J I have 9 definite growers, all from Green Batch. Purple Batch has questionable air cells and doesn't seem too lively. Considering the failure of Blue Batch I'm so nervous about these guys. They're already doing so much...
