I honestly don't know much about it, but as far as I've ever heard, it's just a perfectly normal occurrence and nothing to worry about or for you to do. Here is a link to tell you a little about it...
Our final count is five hatched babies, all bantams. We had 3 not fertile, 1 early quitter and a later quitter. Better than last year for me so I'm happy! The bigger chicks in the picture are ones my husband just brought home from Tractor Supply 2 days before these hatched.
I have four chicks out total now. The first one that came out last night at 9:25 p.m. is pecking a bit at the newest one that just hatched. Should I try and remove it so it doesn't hurt the new baby? There is one egg left not picked and one egg is zipped pretty good already so I was scared to...
First baby out at 9:25pm. 2 pipped eggs. 1 pipped and zipping, but had to go put my kids to bed. It'll probably be out already by the time I get back to the incubator. The very first egg that pipped sometime between 2:30 and 7:50am has not done anything since. I haven't seen any movement or...
I have the Janoel 12 and there's only one little vent hole on the top and it's open. The humidity has now dropped to around 61% so I'm just going to leave it be for now. I hear some chirping! Also, I think I figured out why my temp dropped. I've had it wrapped in a towel for the whole first 18...
Thank you. Why would the temp drop like that though?? I taped my little therm./hygro. to the side of the incubator so it wouldn't get knocked around by any chicks. Could that effect it's readings maybe? If that's why and the temp. is really fine, I just raised it and I am now cooking them! I'm...
So, last night I was getting nervous that my humidity was a little too high because I know when they pip it'll shoot up a bit. It was like 74% around 2am and I opened the incubator a few times just a crack to try and let the humidity out a little bit. I looked to dip a few percent and then when...
Locked down around 6:30. I candled before lockdown and 5 out of 6 eggs show shadowing. I started with ten eggs; two we're not fertile and there was one quitter. This is only my second time hatching and the first time only 3 out of 9 hatched. One of those had problems and died after a few days...
Finally got my eggs this evening and set in the incubator at 7:35. So, about a day and a half later than I wanted, but they're in and I think I'll still count for the hatch-a-long... @casportpony ??? Do we message you our number? Thanks!
I was going to set our eggs today. Incubator has been running for a day, but I couldn't pickup the eggs from my friend today. I should get them tomorrow. Is that too late to be counted with the hatch-a-long? I saw someone a while back in the thread said something about a 2 day before and 2 day...
I'll be setting eggs with you! I will be hatching for only my second time this year. I did not have very good success last year, but am hopeful this year will be better!
