Majestic Waterfowl had Laddy treated successfully for aspergiliosis. He received medication in the form of a fine mist in a covered crate. One of their newsletters reported on that. http://www.majesticwaterfowl.org/mmissue121.htm

I do not have chickens, just ducks. What I have read here is that older birds can be brutal toward younger ones, so I would proceed with caution. Hiding spaces may not be enough protection if older birds decide to go after the youngers. Many people have both and make it work. I would keep...

I have a couple of Runners who get seriously broody, but I do not know what starts them! Some have shared broody nests, but only rarely for a full month.

Each flock, and individuals differ in cold hardiness. I have several Runners who do not do well below 35F. If the duck is shivering, he or she is too cold, and needs a warmer shelter. A.S.A.P.

Hallelujah! Bean had a swollen spot on his bill - was an infection. I gave him oral antibiotics and silver sulfadiazine cream topically - all from the vet. Took a while, but it cleared up well.

You are right to pay attention. Sometimes I will have a secret rendezvous with a duck to give some extra treats to help through a stressful time. @Tlmcq

Some of my Runners were like this the first year, and my KC Rouen mix girl is now like this. I think they tend to hold on to their feathers while they lay. Then they stop laying, molt, rest, and start again. My Runners laid for I think sixteen months before they took a break, their first...

I would get their stool tested for parasites. Most vets can do that even if they are not duck vets. Broodies can lose alot of weight. You can give them some dry cat kibble as treats in addition to regular feed. Mine like peas. I supplement with calcium citrate. I buy tablets and dissolve...

I went with Storey's Guide all the way when raising the ducklings (I don't recall any big variations from their recommendations, anyway). I did not remove water at night till they were two months old, I think that may be the only variation. Two of my Runners died from some kind of internal...

How old are they? How long had they been laying? When they molt, they rest from egg laying for several weeks. During this time I keep giving them laying feed and some extra protein for the feathers and to build up their calcium stores.

In our first duck house, I used solar rope lights - white - they cast a gentle light that was strongest just after sunset, and because the solar panel was in a partly shady area, the battery would discharge within a few hours so the light was not on all night - worked really well.
