I may try some of those. Good for the car too. I'm not a big fan of vanilla though, but like the green apple and blackberry clove. Perhaps something similar with citronella would also be effective. The coops never get too many flies since I pick up under roosts each morning. It is outside, in...

Before maggots are seen, it is a good idea to check vents for cleanliness. Accumulated fecal matter around vents can attract flies, then eggs are laid where maggots hatch, and can invade the vent or feed off infected tissue. It is a bad scene when that happens. Prozap Screw Worm aerosol is a...

That's like fighting a war with a pocket knife. Enough of us already know DE is useless and the dangers far outweigh what little efficacy DE may have against external parasites only. Once it gets in air sacs of birds, it does not leave, eventually promoting the same condition known as...

That's good. The thing about chickens is they are stoic like many animals. Often, when symptoms become severe, an infection has existed for awhile. There could be a number of reasons one hen isn't laying while the rest are. Supplementing nutrition is always a good first step, but underweight...

Intestinal worms are generally species specific, and intestinal worms that infect chickens are not transferable to humans or dogs. You say you can't handle it, so what do you do if your dog or cat or child gets worms? Hold your hands up and surrender? This is nature in our material world, and...

That is what is recommended by numerous articles on benzamidazoles in relation to chickens. I've eaten eggs within a week after worming with Fenbendazole or Albendazole and never had a problem, or noticed a taste difference. That's just me though.

I never give any buttermilk to young birds until they are at least 5 weeks old and familiar with a balanced starter ration. Wetting a pound of feed with an ounce or two of lowfat buttermilk is alright once a week. You have to be careful about supplements and calcium content with growing chicks...

Chickens have benefited from milk proteins in diets for many years, study after study. http://www.gov.mb.ca/agriculture/livestock/production/poultry/poultry-rations-and-feeding-methods.html "Skimmilk and Buttermilk are Excellent for all Classes of Poultry but especially valuable for young...

I've used mashed hard boiled egg or scrambled egg for a weak, sick bird that isn't eating well. I do know that chickens eat what is most preferable once it is available, and since milk proteins are one of the best animal proteins they can get, I don't need to add eggs to their diet. I have all...

I wouldn't recommend getting mature birds familiar with the taste for their own eggs. There are plenty other nutrient rich supplements which provide animal protein. Beside that, raw eggs contain a certain protein called Avidin. It inactivates the vitamin Biotin, which could lead to a deficiency.

For a few birds, it is no big deal. I got sick of loading syringes or cutting individual pieces of bread to put the dose on, so I just go with tablets. For years I used the MSUCARES way by mixing Safeguard in feed. Then used Wormazole for a number of years or Wormal tabs. I've used DAC since...

Mississippi State University Extension Service recommends it for 1 day. I would do it for 3 and make sure they are all eating. 1 oz Safe-guard per 15-20 lbs of feed Dissolve the fenbendazole product in one cup of water. Mix this solution well into the feed and give to the birds as their only...

Haha! The person who originally posted that just halted a bunch of business for those sushi bars. That little nematode was hamming it up for the camera.

My chickens get enough clay in soil around here. Probiotics, supplements which cleanse and support the liver and immune system, and a quality diet are more important in my opinion. My birds have lots of room and plenty of earth. I see DE as totally obsolete when it comes to chickens.

Well, if you ever have trouble with anything trying to chew through plastic, get some desiccant packs like the ones used in ammo storage. They will stop the humidity levels in steel cans. I keep my feed bagged and set it in steel cans. I keep silica packs in the bottom of cans during Summer.

Gotcha. I don't even like that crap in my formulated feed. Worthless filler. I know folks in more humid areas have a concern about steel cans "sweating" and feed getting damp.
