Yes, this has been an unusual winter. The blizzard is still on here...started with rain Saturday. We have had rain, hail, sleet, snow, high winds. There have been tornados in our state as well. Plenty of flooding and downed power lines. Christmas Day the temperatures were in the high 60s.

My little d'Anver hen hatched eggs this week and I gave her a few more from that were incubator hatched. She has taken all 13 well in stride. They all make it under her wings...for now. Some were almost one week old so already knew about food and water. A mixture of Bantams...Delaware...

Those of you in the south, stay safe and warm. Best advice: Don't walk on that ice without good shoes! Wear surgical gloves under your other gloves to keep your hands warm and dry. Wear double layers of everything including your head.

D'Anver, Cochin, Wyandotte, and Bantam Delaware are all broody right now...sheesh! With this roller coaster weather, I'm hesitant to give them.

I have large fowl hens sitting on a mixture of banty eggs in the outside coops. I'm moving the eggs inside the incubator just before hatch (3 days) and the hen into a hanging cage nest over toss able eggs. Then I'm giving the hen the hatch chicks and tossing those two or three eggs. One hen...
