So far they lay pretty good, much better than the pure light browns I used to help make them. Eggs are a decent size too, much larger than the other bantam chickens I have but body size is about the same as the other bantams

Thanks. When my grandmother passed and I was going through old drawings I did, I noticed most of the chickens looked like a silver laced leghorn if anything. When I was a teen, I wanted to combine lacing and the leghorn type but didn't have the knowledge of genetics back then to make it happen...

Above are some project leghorn bantams. Top picture is my bantam Mille fleur hen with her cockerel from a light brown cock. There is also a pure light brown hen and a blue laced red project pullet. I've been working on making single combed and rose combed blue laced red and also blue light...

I finally got some red leghorns! They are 3 months old, I paid for 4 pullets and was lucky enough that she had a cockerel that she threw in with them for free. I just got home with them, the lady had them caged and ready for me so I didn't get to pick them out but in the light from my cell...

Just curious if anyone has gotten leghorns from Sandhill. What is the quality like?

I just got some barred leghorn pullets from privett and it is obvious they will be more cuckoo. As they feather out, I will get some pics. I am also hoping to get some red leghorns this season. I always wanted them but had horrible luck with the 4 batches from 3 sources when I tried them before.

I'm going to start with single combed birds from hatchery stock since I can't find any breeders that work with reds. Later, if all goes as planned, I have a plan to make rose comb red leghorns without cross breeding, just crossing color varieties. Gotta love having a fair knowledge of genetics

I think I may try working with red leghorns soon. I tried a while back but had all 3 batches of chicks from 3 different sources arrive dead. I am determined to have them! If needed, I already have a breeding plan in place to improve type and I am pretty stoked about it. I have only seen a few...

One of my show line leghorn hens decided to fly the coop and venture into the deep snow so I snagged a pic of her. Sorry about her feather condition, her rooster is rather rowdy.

Just thought I'd share about mine. My SC ladies got frostbite the first night it got to 30. Here, we get over 100 in summers and both RC and SC did great. Now that we're in winter, my RC leghorn is out in an unheated shed and we've gotten near 0 at nights, she is laying a HUGE white egg every...

Well, are you after type or production more? In my experience with white, red, and brown leghorns from mcmurray, all tend to have pinched tails. If you want good looking leghorns from a hatchery type place, email Duane Urch ([email protected]) and ask him for a price list, he has some great...

That is what makes a breed a breed. Without type, you just have a random chicken. If you have multiple varieties of leghorns, you should be able to take the silhouette of one and match it with the others.

I can do my best to help. I got rose combed 'light brown' leghorns from mcmurray this spring and they are way too dark. The type is ok on them but nothing compared to the single combed girls I had. I will keep an eye on this thread, ask any questions you want and I'll do my best to help

I finally got around to snagging a couple pics of my crazy rose comb brown leghorn hen, she is the one I got at a swap and is hatchery stock. She is just getting done laying for now, her legs are all washed out looking.

I will have to go through this thread since I havent posted in ages. I was at a swap a couple weeks back and saw a cage full of rose combed brown leghorns. The rooster was nasty and had a loped comb. One of the hens got out and I chased her around the parking lot for a few minutes, when I caught...

I dont have any leghorns now but in the past I had a pair of exchequers back when McKinney was selling them. I also had barred leghorns that came from an APA judge, the birds had horrible type and looked more rock that leghorn, the rooster was ok but the hens even layed light brown eggs. I tried...
