    Got 11 eggs yesterday, seems the Silkies have gone on strike, but the others have upped production. Also 2 SFH eggs laid, just need to get the 3rd hen laying now....

    Angela, welcome to the world of silkies. I have had them for over 2 yewars now and here are a few hints for you. Do not let them free range, their upward vision is very limited and they do make easy prey for predators.. Also they are prone to bullying by larger fowl if you mix them...

    Wild, sorry for your losses...... may I suggest getting hardware cloth..... Chicken wire is designed to keep chickens in but not keep predators out.... Not a cheap item to buy, but probably the best investment you can have if you keep chickens..... I buy 36' high hardware cloth, make a 12" skirt...

    So, here is a question for the "experts": I am buying hatchery chicks for the first time ever - they will have Marecks vaccination, so do I feed medicated feed or not? I know from experience, when they get moved outside they will be given Sulmet in their water. I do not want cocci again.....
