I would not be too concerned so long and they are not acting strange in any other way...how do you tell if a Cayuga is acting strange? Your guess is a good as mine, but if they are eating and pooping and waddling around they are usually fine. The following paragraph is from WF360 which is...

I know, but he is located in NYC. Too bad because I would take him in like a lost child. By the way, who told you I lurk in an ally?

I wish I was closer I would take him into our family in a heart beat. But, I am in West Texas so even meeting half way would be out of the question. I have 16 Cayugas, 2 drakes and 14 lovely little ladies that I am sure he would be happy with...There are pictures of them in my blog linked in my...

If I can figure out how to do multiple hatching pens I might do that. If one hatches her babies at the same time I am able to hatch some using an incubator will they adopt them like a hen will?

Love that as a foster family plan. The Cayugas are supposed to be pretty good sitters and mothers but I am not schooled in how to even go about that. Plus if most of them decided to do it at the same time I would not have the room. So I am going to try the incubator when the time comes.

If I can find the right packaging and know they are fertile I will be happy to do just that. Then you can have lovely little black fuzzy butts running around as well.

It just dawned on me. If one has started to lay eggs then the others might not be far behind. I don't know if ducks lay eggs year round (my Khakis do but they were bred to do that) but if they do I could end up with a whole bunch of Cayuga eggs each day soon. Once breeding season begins I will...

EUREKA!!!! My first Cayuga egg. I have 14 Cayuga females that are 22 wks and 1 day old today. They are due to begin laying but with the cold weather I sort of gave up hope...at least for the time being. Well I just went out to clean out their pen and fluff their bedding and what should I...

Don't know when the breeding season for Cayuga ducks is, or for ducks in general. I am guessing the Spring. However, my females are ready and my males are not. The girls are bobbing their heads up and down and chasing the males around the field. The males are all like "get away from me" and are...

Well, I guess it had to happen sooner or later. My Cayugas are mating!!! They won't even be 20 weeks old for another three weeks but there they were ... going at it in the pool. The females initiated it and they have been chasing the males around bobing their heads for several days. I am hoping...

Cayuga ducks can fly...just not very well or high or far. I have 16 and they do silly little flights off and on all day. I read once that they fly like a brick.

We are having a necropsy done on Wednesday when we take our Shelty in for surgery. We want to make sure it is not something that can affect our other ducks. The Cayugas are planned to be a breeding flock but if there is something amiss we will have to forego that. Will post the findings as soon...

I sadly had to put down the largest of my three male Cayugas this morning. When I let them out he was totally not able to stand or raise his head. He just lay there flapping his wings trying to move. He was easily twice the size of the others (male or female) even though he was hatched at the...

We spent the morning setting up a completely seperate range area for the Cayugas and chickens to share. The adult 5 (Khakis and Blue Swedish) now have their own area where they can range without having to try to kill every other duck on the planet. The Cayugas are really happy with their new digs.

Luna is beautiful. I have 17 Cayugas that are just reaching maturity and they are gorgeous. Just wait until she gets her adult feathers. Not quite as striking as the drakes but the females are beautiful as well.

Yes and that is always a chance when you get waterfowl from Ideal. They state that they may include crested in your order. I even requested that they not but ended up with two crested females anyway. They will be pets and not breed girls. I am located about half way between Lawn, TX and...

The males were from a local farm. The females were from Ideal. I will be adding to the flock from probably Metzer. Then putting them in groups of one male with several females making sure to keep the related birds separate. I am just hoping to have some luck this spring. I have never...
