    September Hatch-A-Long

I never knew that. Maybe thats why only 2/8 made it to lockdown and only 1 hatched.

    September Hatch-A-Long

oh wow the size difference is crazy. Lucky is only 10 days but he is a standard and the new chick is a bantam. I'll slowly introduce them tonight.

    September Hatch-A-Long

I think the cross over was genetic. The second egg didn't make it but I opened it up to see if it had the same genetic issues. Had cross over beak, not as bad as the Silkie who hatched this morning. Couldn't see the eyes though to see if it developed correctly. I will be introducing the chick to...

    September Hatch-A-Long

Yeah, that or genetics. I got the eggs from ebay so its hard to tell. I have a 10 day old chick who is lonely who this chick will join once s/he is walking and active. Is there anything I need to do to introduce the two? I am hoping this second egg hatches, also but only time will tell. but I...

I think I worded that wrong. The chick is fine, it detached just fine. and Seems to be healed. Sorry it's been a long night. As of right now s/he is still alive and a fluffy Silkie. Just not sure what happened with its development. Why it only has one fully developed eye?

    September Hatch-A-Long

Well the baby detached on itself. Poor thing has so many problems dont know if it is genetics. E-bay eggs so I can't say. His right eye never fully formed and has a cross beak. S/he will not be used for breeding. s/he is the only one that hatched. only 2 made it to lockdown. I still have 1 more...

Anything I need to do? Looks like he isn't closed completely. This is one special needs chick. Poor thing. cross over beak and his right eye is weird. Either no eyelid or no eye I can't tell. Obviously won't be used as breeding stock.

Oh I'm not messing with it. Just saying she piped started to zip but you can clearly see there are still veins on the membrane that she still needs to absorb. I don't mess with hatches, they come out on their own when they ar ready. Besides s/he piped on day 18 and its only day 19 now.

Never thought of the flour either. I had a early hatcher last hatch. Piped and started zp day 18, early day 20 she was out of the shell. I am thinking this one will be out around the same time.

    September Hatch-A-Long

Well he piped a little early looks like he still have some veins on the membrane. But I'll have a better idea of whats going on with his beak once its hatched and out of the shell. I will of course be giving it a chance of life, just not using it for breeding. I uually let my chickens free range...

    September Hatch-A-Long

Yeah I was thinking about if s/he could groom herself. I won't know how bad it is until she hatches and gets a bit older. It's hard to tell when s/he's still in the shell. Whenever s/he peep its straightens itself out so maybe its something I could fix?

    September Hatch-A-Long

Thank you. Obviously I wont be able to breed her as it is a genetic issue from what I;ve read. Maybe that why I only got 2/8 eggs to lock down. these are e-bay eggs though so who knows. I read about using rubber band but not sure baout how to do that...When s/he peeps it goes back into place so...

    September Hatch-A-Long

Well I now know for sure that Both chicks are alive. I wasn't too sure about the darker silkie egg. But looks like either both have internally piped or are gettign ready to. I see movement in air cell, shadow but doesn't look like a beak yet. was adding water and figured i'd check he air cell...

Lock down has started for the 2 Silkie eggs that made it! Working on getting the humidity up, have two paper towels in there that are wet, So we should have good humidity once it settles! This is excitin! Now to sit on my hands until the babies come out! Good thing I have a 8 day old chick to...

    September Hatch-A-Long

I am not an experienced thatcher so I cant tell you what to do. What I would do is peel back the egg see if he poked through the membrane, and if so make sure his beak is out through the hole. Hopefully someone with more experience can tell you what to do.

    September Hatch-A-Long

I had a chick who piped below the air cell. I chipped teh shell away at the pip and made sure the beak was sticking out so it could breathe. Not sure if there is anything different you need to do for them if they pip the entirely wrong end though.

Tonight at midnight is the start of day 17. Humidity has rising 10% by itself and nothign has changed. Humidity in my other incubator hasn't changed at also I know its not just the environment. What would cause this? early hatch maybe?
