I think it's moving slow since most are doing shows (its show season). While its show season, alot of folks with alot of knowledge are busy and might not be able to post or share their knowledge. So I personally don't mind waiting.
The one hen who's tail looks lower is the one that got lose, she was turning when I snapped the picture. She finished the turn and ran into the bushes, which made it easy for me to catch her and put her back in her pen before she really flew the coop. The normal angle for males is 45 and females...
First off I'll state that I don't show (which is why they are dirty in these pictures, we had been having alot of rain when I took these pictures before they started to molt to badly) and after coming across two hens, it took me a few years to find anyone to get some more from. This past spring...
I agree that pictures can only show so much and these aint the best pictures. I admit, I didn't notice the chest in the middle picture. Would this fill out enough with age, since I think the poster of the pictures said the bird was only 6 months old?
Here's a top view of the pullet I...
Using her pictures, the hens tail needs to be alot higher, same with the roosters (this could just be bad pictures). I would also like to see a fuller crest and beard on them. At the moment they both seem to be good on the size of wattles and comb. Have to see how the crests color out after the...
I could get pictures of the roosters, but all are without their tails only one of the blue laced roosters has A single tail feather. My silver laced roosters are pretty even in their lacing, so by switching roosters, I am getting different genetics in the offspring and seeing which cross works...
I had her with a silver laced rooster that has a good crest and I plan on putting her with a different silver laced rooster that also has a good crest this coming spring.
She was a POL in these pictures. And yes she is not an SOP color, but since there's surprisingly not much going on here with the polish and my silvers are pretty bad looking at the moment. I'll use her pictures from earlier this year. So please over look her color. I'll have to pull some other...
Noseychickens would you mind putting up some more pictures of yours (if you got some before the molt started) and point out the good and bad. I would put mine up but all my silver laced are molting pretty good, which just leaves my blue laced ( not an SOP color).
OK, these ain't the best pictures for nothing! I took them of my SL hen (at the time she was 5 yrs old) to show someone her spurs, but it does show some of her crest and lacing. She was not bearded. From what I have seen in one of my three SL roosters and in alot of other polish roosters, is...
I have a few hens who's crest look like that (when not in molt). Unfortunately I didn't plan on posting pictures of my polish, just on asking and learning. So I didn't get any pictures of them before they started molting, and now they don't look so hot . Most of mine seem to be pretty even on...
Thanks for posting this link Fred's Hens, just a quick look and It looks really good on the feather pictures. Can't wait till I have time to sit down and read it. Thank you Ross for doing this up.
Since no one answered this, I'll try. I think it is when the beak doesn't close correctly, leaving a gap between the top and lower beaks. But it's not like cross beak, where the beak doesn't line up.
Someone please correct me if I am wrong, so we all know what open beak means in a breed.
