Hatch over. All four mystery chicks hatched although one has a pea sized redbellybutton of unabsorbed yolk which I have covered with microderm tape to stop it getting infected, fingers crossed I will call him miracle if he survives as he was out with it about thumb sized and still soft and it...

Short answer: no!! There is a petting zoo downstairs with around 30-40 freerange chickens of every breed I can recognise there and they sell fresh eggs so I thought why not put 6 in the incubator as my ducks are due then anyway. 4 developed and 3 have now hatched and the fourth is pipped. I am...

My mystery chick, based on the white larger breeds there im guessing light sussex x, or plain white x (couldnt identify some large white ones there), or buff x? Cant think of any other white ones specifically so those are my guesses, particularly as one roo is a handsome white sussex!

I dont think you can see the same level of detail, but even the button quail you can make out moving with a bright eenough light-my hubbys torch app on his phone is awesome so I use that for fiddly quail! Still nothing, im going insane waiting, keep saying its only day 27 to myself over and...

Yes I always do, I find the smaller the egg the better success with air cells reattaching or arriving intact through our particularly rough postage. (Only based on my hatches with buttons and coturnix, I find that the coturnix quail tend to have more detached cells than the buttons despite...

I know, its even worse than normal round here as to be enviromentally friendly the postman (mailman) gets dropped off with a shopping trolley full of parcels which gets dragged round as he drops off items. All 18 of my mailed duck eggs had detached air cells :-(. No it was raining and I...

I know , I have had a look at the egg colour chart but there are so many with different looks but similar egg shells and these will be hybrids probably anyway as they are all pure but freeranging together so it could be anything, counting down... Size days til they are due lol

Pekin and that is all I know! She just said she breeds pekin bantams and minature silver appleyards would I like some eggs... Not a tricky question! My mystery eggs are the ones peaking my curiousity though. 1 is slightly smaller than a shop chicken egg or a RIR, white but bigger than the pekin...

Im cheating here as in the July hatchalong for my 11 duckies and 4 mystery chicks due to hatch next week, but as my home is quite small that meant selling my quail so the ducks orthe chicks dont pose a biothreat the them and the woman who bought them owns a large farm breeding minature silver...
