Welcome to the thread. You're going to like these birds. They really are beautiful.
OK, that being said, I'm trying to bring don't the amounts and breeds of birds I have. Most of the Phoenix were going. This weekend I posted on FB with 3 dozen eggs of different breeds and of course the...
My birds are also therapy, so I get that too. I lost Silkied AM chicks every time I hatched them, when they hatch. They're delicate, but being bred stronger, so there was a time I thought I'd never have them. I lost 6 in the beginning within 2 days and that was hard. I have a lot of breeds and...
Tabatha I've even lost chicks down holes. Gophers, snakes and one time one was attacked by fire ants and practically eaten by the time I found it and momma was making a lot of noise and trying to call it way. Yeah! Squirrels suck! I used to think they were cute, but not anymore.
I'm really...
I've had up to day 28 on eggs, even under a broody. Matter of fact, that's why I had chicks hatch in the trash this week. Just let her sit and don't bother her to much.
LOL After years of hatching I still get down and press my face against the door to watch hatches. I have a broody hatch a bunch of chicks out in a Pepsi carton she ran off to lay in. In my neighbor's garbage heap. My grand daughter was about 5 or 6 and walks in saying "You dumb bird layed eggs...
I buy super scratch when I'm tight on money. The one I have now is something my feed store has mixed. It's the cleanest scratch I've ever seen. Not sure where you could order it front but I'll ask them.
I also buy fish oil. You can buy liquid or gel.
Can't wait to see some of these projects...
I use a gamers scratch that has fish oil. I notice a big difference when they get fish oil, in the way they feather. Tails get longer and they just look healthier all around.
Rambob my girls are extremely broody. I was lucky to get enough eggs to hatch from them, because I gave up and let them sit. Now? I have a hen with a nest, but she isn't sitting, just guarding. Very weird. And they will only lay in a big covered kitty litter box or a medium sized dog crate...
I hear that they also do it for sexlinks. So if you aren't working on a new color, then these wouldn't be able to be used other than in working on improving Goldens? I'm not sure. But I had asked the question and then today while checking on the Phoenix chicks I think I noticed different...
