The Front Porch Swing

Bee, I meant to ask/tell last night..... When we eviscerated one of my r oosters we never found the heart. Has that ever happened to anyone else? I mean I know it had to be there but we looked for several minutes and never found it. We found little chunks of something that resembled organ tissue but only about 3 pieces that were dime size or smaller? It was so bizarre!

I
I would love to join you from Vermont!

Make yourself at home..it's a big ol' porch. Someone's playing a mandolin over there in the corner and it's sweet.

Uh...no. I've never encountered that in many hundreds of chickens killed.

And I've never had one to go to pieces while pulling guts like a liver will sometimes do. I don't know what to say about that one.....

I don't think I would have stopped looking..that's just too freaky for words!

We went through everything piece by piece! Only found those 3 little pieces of "something?" He was the 3rd one we did, so we actually went back through and made sure we didn't miss it.... Never found it! We were both a little freaked out, and decided to just stop and say that we missed it some how!

That would certainly freak me out. Did you clean out the chest cavity all the way? Sometimes that heart is tucked up so far that you can miss it until you clean out the lungs and pull the trachea.

That is certainly a strange story and I've never heard of such a thing in all my days...wish I could have been there to see that.

Listened to some very good sermons today and have much to be thankful for each and every moment, but can feel that gratitude more fully while sitting in a warm house with hot food in front of me while others out there in this world do not have those luxuries. I am so fully blessed!

I pray for the homeless of the world, that they find a warm place and warm food when they are in need, and those without adequate clothing and shelter even when they have a home of sorts...all the hard to heat trailers, shacks, apartments and old farm houses where the pipes freeze easily and the wind whistles through the cracks.

I love the blue and green eggs and sometimes wish to have some in with my browns, but don't like the breeds so never followed through.

Who knows? One day I could have at least one blue egg layer.....

I think that pic of the nest with the different color eggs in it belongs in a magazine! So natural...love the nesting materials.

Thank you! It was just a quick cell phone shot! And the nesting material is just some long weedy grass from the edges of the woods that has died and dried up. The chickens love it when it is green during the summer, and it makes great nest material! I've used it green too!
