I know this is an old thread but I was curious if anyone was still alive here? My GF & I live in Akron and have a good bit of space, we just purchased 11 chicks for delivery in one week, I will be planning for our coop location while I am brooding out the chicks for 3-4 weeks until they go outside. I do believe I have enough room to get 100 feet away from any dwelling but damn is that inconvenient! Ideally I want to be right out of my backdoor right next to my garage because that would make the most sense for storage, cleaning, maintenance, & most of all...winter. Who wants to trek though 100 feet of snow everyday in the winter to tend the chickens, not to mention 100 feet + to clean the coops, bring feed etc...especially when you're handicapped....FML! I'm about to say screw it and put it next to the house, all the neighbors are cool and encourage the chickens, they don't care how close they are to anything & actually want them to hang out on their property too. What is anyone's experience with tending chickens in Akron? Mostly positive, mostly negative, any problems with the city? The older I get the less and less I like this city's arbitrary laws...gunshots, absurdly loud rap music at all hours, people screaming and yelling at all hours, dogs constantly barking, sirens constantly wailing, helicopters constantly going overhead....that's all good.....but chickens....no no we can't have those, too much of a disturbance....what a joke! I guess worst comes to worst I'll have some meat chickens but that's not what I'm really setting out to do. le sigh.
