I imagine the next one won't be exactly this color since sometimes the eggs take a long time to run through the oviduct when the birds are first starting up.

That green egg is amazing! Definitely of Seussian quality.
I have 18 eggs in lockdown that started pipping today, including BBS Ameraucanas. So far none of the Ameraucanas have pipped so I am anxious. I have a whole bunch of Maran eggs with pips already. Fingers crossed!
I have to give back my borrowed incubator after this hatch, then no hatching for a while!
I lost one of my 4 week old lavender chicks this weekend. We had family watching them while we were in San Diego and I think they didn't change the water often enough.
I still have three, but the other one had really puffy muffs.
Now, we just have to find a way to get all of our birds to lay eggs with color that deep... I think I'll print a copy of the picture and hang it above the nesting boxes with a caption that says, "This is what is expected!".
