D'uccle Thread

Closest my odd girl comes to is quail type. She was from my project birds, the result of a mf x lavender pairing, and the only one that looks like that. have no idea what she'll throw when she's bred. She doesn't have the best toe feathering, but I kept her anyway since she's the only odd-colored bird that was a female. Her grandparents were a millie and a lav. Her parents were black with red/gold bleed on the neck feathers.

I have white d'Uccles and lavenders in the same pen right now. Everyone in the pics poseted are female. The boys were busy eating. I have a trio of white, a quad of lavs. About 20 mille fleur at the moment. 10 black d'Uccles in with a black cockeral and a blueish one from the project pen.

Thanks Misty! Yes, she made me think of Faverolles too.

Since I only bred the project birds to improve my lavenders, I have sold off most of the projeny. My goal is showbirds, so those with good type will be bred for strong SQ color and type. I just don't have enough room to do a lot of experimenting, sadly. My odd girl and a blue-ish lad are the only ones I've kept that were not black, lav or mf.

Oh. I still have one weird boy. Guess I should get some good pics of him. His tail is not where it should be for his maturity so he will probably go soon. But since he was the first proj x proj hatchling I've given him a lot of time and attention. Silly me....

Lori, do think of me if you downsize your blacks I would be interested in one or 2 black girls for Mr columbian if he starts growing towards type. As you know I have blacks with mille bleed and blacks with red bleed.

I'll kep that in mind, but not sure when I'll make it out your way again.

Right now I am very undecided on keeping the white trio and the batch of butterscotch chicks the broodies hatched for me. But all others leaving are older hens or boys. Making room for just the SQ birds I'll keep for next year. Only TN has a guaranteed forever home here.

Well what do you think would be the direction to go with the columbian dude..breed to black, white or a project girl?

I got some lavender babies and blacks from Lucky too and porcelain and MF splits.from ZoomZoom. I really love my duccle.

It is only 3+ hours down to you. As soon as I get this medical issue straightened out and see the specialist in August, I should be able to travel some.

If he walks too much upright, don't breed him at all. Otherwise, if he carries himself like Lucky or ZoomZoom, then I'd breed him to the young pair of girls I gave you. Still project bloodlines but Lucky wasn't their sire so a little different mix available.

I hope you get to feeling better soon!! For us right now, 3.5 hours is a lot of gas $. Budget is really tight these days since I'm not working.... I do currently have too many young black pullets but am waiting to see who has best show potential before I'll let anyone go.

AH out is big gas bucks for sure but I am going to need the break more than the $ real soon. LOL

I will keep a watch in this guys growth because I think he has potential so far.

I will be reduceing the number of Cockerals at the end of the month so I know they all carry Lavender which is the main thing I am pretty sure I am only keeping the silver cockeral Pictured as he has good full beard, good foot feathering and over all looks better.

These results are not what was expected from Henks calculator. So Now I have to dig deeper to figur out what is going on genetically.

The Citron to Mille Fluer and Blue Mille Fluer hens are producing Mille Fluer or Blue Mille Fluer as expected. All will carry lemon.

Just thought I would share these outcome from the projects for this year.

Doug

Beautiful, Doug!! Thanks for posting pics.
I love your boy in the last pic. I had some with the coloring and pattern, but not the good body type.

Henks didn't predict my results either. I really think the mille fleur is the issue in making accurate predictions. It can mask so much but I also think it is the least understood of all chicken color 'patterns'.

Doug, that last cockerel is breathtaking! I love him.............I wonder if this color is sex linked? I'm suspicious the blue or black & red may be.
Oh.......and I love the lacing on the blue birds. I think they would be worth working with if someone wanted blue d'Uccle.
