The Marans (French: Poule de Marans,) is a breed of chicken from the port town ofMarans, in the department ofCharente-Maritime in the Poitou-Charentes region of western France. It was createdwith the local feral chickens descendedfrom fighting game chickens carried fromIndonesia and India. Those originalMarandaise fowl were "improved" for thetable through recombination with imported Croad Langshans. A favourite at poultryshows, it is a dual purpose fowl known bothfor its extremely dark eggs and fine meatqualities.
There are 9 recognized colours in theFrench Standard: Cuckoo, Golden Cuckoo,Black, Birchen, Black Copper, Wheaten,Black-tailed Buff, White and Columbian.Black Copper (black with copper feathers onthe neck) and Cuckoo (barred feathers, giving a black and white speckledappearance) are the most common of these.Other colors not officially recognized (such as Blue Copper, Blue, and Splash) also exist.
They should have orange eyes. The shanksare usually slate or pink, the soles of the feetshould always be white as Marans have white skin, not yellow. Though the originalMarans could also be feather legged birds,British breeders preferred the clean leggedversion, and thus feathered legged Maransare now mainly found in France and theUnited States. The Australian PoultryStandard recognises both feathered andclean-legged. The American Poultry Association only recognizes featheredlegged.

what a lovely body type but her comb let her down ,
I m afraid she ll be disqualify because of the comb .
major faults- 1)irregular ( should have 5 well defined points). 2)floppy ( should be straight ) and 3) has a double comb point ( forked point )on the second point .
double comb point is a disqualify by it self .

shame she ll do great in the breeding pen with a well marked roo with a gorgeous comb.

here are the Fault that cause the disqualification of any marans chooks from the show .
1) luck of mass - chooks under the minimum weight Coq under 3Kg and Hen under 2.5K
2) black eyes
3) side sprig and forked comb point .coronation comb
4) White ears lobe
5) yellow feet
if the chooks are shown in USA

if they are shown in France than we have to add = Absence of the red shoulder on the coq.

anything else will cause the chooks to loose points but not disqualify .
