The key is to maintain a suitable environment for the predators so they can perpetuate themselves. There has to be enough flies for the predators to prey on. You can manage it so the flies are knocked down to an acceptable level but there are still enough for the predators to survive. If you want the fly population reduced lower than that, then yes, you have to keep buying them.
