My Wild Types dont molt till way late in the season, which was a trait they got from Spanish gamefowl. Very minor molt too... always appearing feathered.

all my true Hatch types go into molt early and down to bare skin.... and most will eclipse molt before going into new feathers.

Mine do not go naked on body ever. They will go for a few days without significant flight feathers in tail but even there skin not exposed. Wing feather replacement with mine starts back in late April following a very consistent pattern through November when last of those feathers are swapped out. Tails are dropping out in some now. Eclipse molt occurs before hens start loosing any tail or body feathers. Eclipse feathers of males then swapped out with proper hackles and saddle just a tad later than hen swapping out theirs. Mine keep eclipse feathers for at most 3 months.

Skin exposed means stress during molt.
