Also, he has not lost any feathers in tail. That is his bullstag look. He was not in best of shape when bringing those feathers in. He is a solid 60 days behind mine with respect to wing feather replacement and shows no sign of eclipse molt. I chalk latter two things to his being of a different strain.
 
Here is the more interesting stuff. The muff X toppy hen bred two one of my B-line cocks threw the following. All eight surviving appear to show toppy. Only stags carry gray.

My Wild Types dont molt till way late in the season, which was a trait they got from Spanish gamefowl. Very minor molt too... always appearing feathered.

all my true Hatch types go into molt early and down to bare skin.... and most will eclipse molt before going into new feathers.
 
Yeah my birds lose feathers and I'll be damned if they don't grow replacements. Earth shattering stuff right here!
