Those are amazing birds. Any idea how the color started
It was discovered by a gal in Montana who had bought birds from Legg's before. She called Brad and he sent his son to Montana to see this 'different' colored birds. The flock was free-ranging out in the fields but Brandon was able to catch them including a hen on a nest of eggs and brought them all home to KC, Mo.

Hmm so just a complete mutation interesting

Not right away but by August he had quite a few spots, some were orange but they all turned black by his yearling year. His mother Dottie still has her orange spots and two of her sisters also have a few spots. Ray is already paired with all three of them for this breeding year.

they're beautiful
we had a white male and then ended up with a ton of pied offspring and now I'm suddenly realizing all the pieds must be gone because everyone looks pretty standard now.
