Well at least I now know my cat is no threat to my silkies. He's a big boy-probably part Maine Coon- about 9-10 months old. He's a house cat who generally doesn't get to go outside but he sits in the window and watches the bird feeder intently and yowls to go out and eat them. This morning my husband couldn't find him anywhere. I looked through the house and garage. Went out on the deck and called him. Nothing. I wasn't sure how he would have gotten out anyway unless he slipped out when my son went to school. I quit worrying about it for a while and went out to feed the silkies. Their run was open so they could free range for a couple of hours this morning. They are grown except for one 5 week old baby with a broody mamma. I was out there for a few minutes talking to the chickens and feeding them when I heard a small meow. I called and called, thinking Oolong, the cat was out in the yard somewhere and finally the cat peeks out out from behind tiny 4 inch corridor between the broody box and the brick wall. He was terrified of the chickens and I had to stand between him and the silkies before he would come out. My guess is he went in maybe hoping to catch the baby. I don't think he'll try that again. Mamma broody and a few other hens ran at him as I let him out and he scooted back to the deck pretty quickly. Good to know but I don't let the silkies free range very often because I worry something meaner than Oolong will get them.
