I have a sour milk smell in the run area which is all dirt, do you think sweet pdz will work? Didn't have this smell last year it is granular, but won't they eat it too?

Sweet PDZ is the mineral zeolite, which absorbs and transforms ammonia......
......not sure it would work on something that smells like sour milk.

I'd find out what is making that smell and correct it.
Nothing but dirt in the run?
How long have chickens been in there?

I'd layer on a mix of organic materials a few inches thick.....
......different sizes, shapes and materials(some greens and mostly browns).

I was told that smell is from the grains that were on the ground and the food that's they scatter on the ground they've been in this spot for a couple months the other spot they were in for over a year and they never had this smell I'm going to try to PDZ

I am a newbie at this I clean my pen every couple days in the summer and spring and fall their coop gets cleaned out every day there is no smell in the coop just in the pen where there's dirt

I have 6 Rhode Island Reds, they are pets I got them last year when they were two days old I am enjoying them very much laying brown eggs I was getting 4 to 5 eggs a day now they are laying six a day I sell them for $3 a dozen, my accountant gets every egg that comes out of them she cooks them for her dogs. I make 36 dollars a month and that covers their food bedding and anything else they need. my husband got them for me to help me with my depression I've had three major back surgeries 1 in 2009 and to in 2013 and now they want to do another one so my husband figures this will help keep my mind occupied they are very friendly I love my girls

Deerchic - very cool that you have pets and your husband built all of that to try to help! It's bittersweet to see such grown up RIR's - mine are just 3-4 week old chicks right now, so tiny and innocent, so "light brown" compared to your older ladies!

Hopefully your next surgery goes well! There have only been 2 model of human for the last few thousand years, you would think someone would figure out how to fix us up properly by now!

Good morning!

I want to add Sweet PDZ to our poop boards. Do I use it alone or should I mix it with sand to make it go further? I will be putting sand in our run as well and just plan to mix a bit in ... I believe I am understanding that correctly. Can someone please confirm that?? :)

You can use it alone or mixed for poop boards - either way works. It goes farther than you might think because you don't need a huge depth of it on the poop board. I can do my 10x2 foot area of poop boards with one 25 pound bag and I think I have mine a bit deeper than some others do. I'm a "keep it simple" person, so no mucking around with mixing this and that for me, I just use straight PDZ (just be sure you get granular - the powder form is too fine and becomes airborne easily creating respiratory hazards)

Can't help on the run question as I have not tried sand in the run.
