The Rhodebar thread!

Thought I'd share some pics of our 4.5 month old Rhodebar roosters. They've just been sold to their new owners today as mice catchers at a local Sikh temple. Their father is a RIR and mother is a Legbar.

That combo doesn't make rhodebars but they're pretty :)

The combo has produced a lovely batch of chickens with a sweet temperament.
I would like to confirm the information previously posted here. Perhaps you can post pics of the chicos.

e+/eWh B/b+ males dont show any headspot due to the power of Wheaten

At least that has been the case for Rhodebar/RIR cross F1 chicks posted by some breeders that were enhancing the color and type of GFF Rhodebars with Show Quality RIR stock

Ive been having a good read through these posts from 2012-2013, and its taken far longer than i'd care to admit. I have learnt a lot! or at least i think i have. So like any good student I've shown my working... I'd much appreciate it if someone could comment and confirm if i'm right or wrong with this. the key points with the Rhodebar are to be RIR with barring, however the wheaton gene throws that all off track, so in all instances, chicks that are not obviously sexed at birth probably shouldnt be bred from.

so we had a failed hatch of Rhodebars earlier this year, most broke in transit and the two remaining didnt take. so we are putting 6 replacement eggs in next week (slightly late in the season here in the UK). The breeder said her birds are no longer in their breeding pens and the RIR are currently running with the Rhodebars over winter, so she cannot guarentee that the eggs are going to be pure Rhodebar or have a RIR cockerel... not ideal for a first hatch but free eggs are free eggs.

so the above complication aside, my theory is as follows.

Sorry to get back to you so late. Not sure if you'll get to read this. Here is a pic of a male (left) and female (right) chick of the RIR father X LG mother mix. The male had a very faint head spot, and the female had a very faint dark line on her head. Other than that they appeared wheaten at birth.
Consequently, 2 of this generation grew up and have had chicks together which are now about 2 months old and so far look amazing. They (theoretically) have some very strong dominant genes, with barring genes that would become stronger in the next generation (BB & B-).
Male: EwhEWh, CoCo, DbDb, MhMh, Bb, Ig+Ig+
Female: EwhEWh, CoCo, DbDb, MhMh, B-, Ig+Ig+
