It looks nice and there's a good explanation of how to do predator protection, but not much about how to build this coop. It also needs more pictures.

It's a beautiful coop! This article just needs some explanation of how it was built and what materials were needed.

It's basically just a picture of a coop built with pallets without any explanation of how that was accomplished.

Here is my coop, based on Purina Mills plans.

It looks beautiful but there's no pictures of the inside. Also, no instructions or explanation of how you built it or list of materials needed.

Since the pictures don't appear anymore, it is pretty difficult to envision, and lacks enough explanation to compensate for them.

Nice coop and great pictures to show it. There's moderate explanation of how to build it. That poop tray is excellent!

It turned out nice, but there is only one picture of it, no instructions of how to build it, nor materials list or measurements. It's also not showing it with chickens to let us know how it worked and if there would be suggestions for changes to it.

I gave it a star more than I usually would, as it lacks the how-to-build-it and materials list, etc., but what it has is that it's a good read with lots of pictures and explains further why an expansion was needed. Someone with ingenuity could build this with what's here. It's very nice!

Very educational and well-written explanation of the importance of turning eggs while incubating.

One thing I'll note too that the first week is most important, and the importance level goes down as the chick grows. It's still important to turn them though. We have no problems doing a 5-day lockdown as they are more mobile and won't get stuck during that last week. (We've had silkies hatch rarely on day 18, but many times on day 19).

Very informative article covering something most who raise baby chicks have experienced: pasty butt!

Case in point: I recently sold 6 silkie chicks to someone who has other chickens, so thought she was "seasoned." I wrote to her two weeks later to see how they were doing. She said the remaining five were doing awesome, but she lost one to pasty butt. She said she was upset with herself; she never checked for it. Now I'm upset with myself that I don't ask every customer, "Do you know what pasty butt is?" I will now!

I have 25 chicks hatched today, and you can bet they've all been checked once already!

Excellent article!

Oh no. I'm sure she felt horrible. I also don't think people realize how quickly it can escalate. 25 is a lot of butts to check, but it's worth the effort!
Very informative and full of tips for protecting our flocks from avian flu and other diseases.

Cleanliness and good nutrition are always important and can help mitigate lots of issues with our flocks, so glad those were covered as well as many other excellent tips.

Great links provided too for further reading.

This is full of great tips and explanations, especially for anyone new to chicks or getting shipped chicks. A good read!

I agree so much to being a stickler on no treats other than wet mash. I will cheat when they are a few weeks old and give them a little bit of scrambled eggs if we're making those for the older ones. They don't need grit for those, so it's more simple and healthy for them. All in moderation though!

Great article!!

Thank you! I can definitely understand wanting to be strict on treats with young Silkies, given their extra vitamin/nutritional needs.
