I think someone else mentioned the entertainment value of chickens. Besides the fresh, delicious eggs they give you, relaxing on your porch, watching the antics of your flock is very enjoyable. They are just too cute.
All good advice. I was especially interested in the section about introducing new chickens and quarantining.
