My latest project is Large Fowl Buff Cochins. These birds are from Bill West in Colrain, Massachusets, who is well known for his quality stock. Bill has put a lot of work into his birds and it shows. Although some people believe that there is a such a thing as a "Giant" Cochin, this is simply not true. LF Cohins are very large birds with cocks weighing in at up to 11 pounds. Unfortunately, most hatchery stock has lost not only good type, but also the great size. The result is that hatchery birds usually wind up somewhere in between bantam and LF size. The term "Giant" is really nothing more than a sales aid and can be quite misleading.
