four stars. I have a broiler rooster, he IS smelly and gross, but I love watching him guard his hens, he is such a good boy, even tho his call sounds like he's getting waterboarded.
This was very enlightening and encouraging! Next month we get our first batch of meat birds and all I had heard was pretty much everything negative described in your list at the top of the article. I have been determined to have my meaties short life be different and I am so glad I found your article! I love that you treated them like any other chicken until their processing day. The tips on feeding were helpful as well. I can't wait to see my foraging around the yard!
Great article showing a firsthand account of raising this type of meat bird. Very informative.
This is the best article about Cornish X I’ve ever read. They are different, grow extremely fast, but what surprised me was their personalities. We have 12 in our flock. They are so friendly and sweet that they will ”ask” for tummy scratches - and I give them.
”Frankenchickens” my foot!

Great article, thank you for sharing. We are total newbies and have 6 CX to learn more about chickens in general. This has been informative and very helpful.

This is a different kind of chicken keeping.
Interesting to watch the extreme growth rate of these birds.
Free-ranging meat birds have to give forth healthier more nutritious meat.

Thank for this very informative article. I am in the process of taking over meat birds! unfortunately they do not look this good. Now I have an example to show them what I want.

This article and a couple of the videos convinced me to raise a straight run of 25 CX for myself next year. I'm still going to have breeding and layer chickens, but I'm going to see how well the CX do for meat. The key seems to be limiting the food you give them, motivating them to forage aggressively.

One thing I am concerned about is making sure the other birds get enough to eat, with the CX being so much bigger and hunger-driven.

Outstanding article!

I had similar experiences with my 2 batches. Great foragers. When butchered, they had gizzards full of grass.
thank you for writing this up. Very thorough and informative.

Really liked this article. They have their predispositions but when raised this way you can have happy healthy broilers.

I found this article at the perfect time. We are getting ready to order our next batch of meat birds and after everything I had read online and seen, I was avoiding the Cornish X. We have been using the Freedom Rangers but the Cornish X are always much cheaper. After reading this article I think I am going to give it a go.
