The perch experiment

You just confirmed something I've found interesting ....
I have only 4BOs (19wks), they have 4 roost in their Chicken House. Right now they choose to roost on the lower front one and all squished to the right (closer to the door) and they roost in a certain order

The last set of 4BOs I had started roosting on the same but when they started laying, roosted above the nest (large plastic dog house) that has a poop board under it :yesss:. There was just enough room for all of them but they were in a certain order, I banded them with colored wire ties. Prior to them I was given 5 Blue Wyandottes (6mo) they roosted above the nest, again just enough room but in a certain order.

BTW - I read 2x4 flat side up so that's what my roosts .... Waiting for your results.
Will be following this as I am interested to see the outcome of your research
Good luck and keep us posted with the results!!!!
Hope you'll update us with results!
If you ask Sumi she can link it to a thread.

I'd question the PVC. Not just because of how slick it is but it transmits heat so well. It could lead to frostbite on the feet. Metal would also be a concern.

Thanks, I figured the link out finally. I'm not expecting all the materials to be ideal, and in southern Georgia frost bite isn't a major factor. Some material will be in the test for potential elimination. I figured they would avoid certain material but surprises happen.
