The Surprising Truth About Pit Bulls

This is an accurate, helpful, and fun article to read. It is clearly written by someone who put time and effort into research and facts.
Thank you. 💗
Edit: just wanted to add that one thing I don't like is that Staffordshire Bull Terriers, which often get called pit bulls, are often called "nanny dogs" and I've heard a lot of people assume that they can just leave their kids alone with a dog they did not train to ensure they are good with kids, just because they heard that breed(s) is good with kids. Please do not assume something, good or bad, about a dog, even if it is generally true for its breed.
I also do not believe every pit bull/ pit bull type dog is perfect, but I also know that they are NOT what their reputation as "killers/attackers" says about them.

I aprreciate the review very much @JiCizzy ! Thank you for the support!
Great article! I agree with pretty much everything you said other than it is a lot of options, not facts. I really hate that people claim it is the breed that causes them to bite. They were bred to fight dogs and other animals, not humans. Can they bite? Absolutely but if they do that is almost always on the owners, with it very rarely it being the individual dog. If chihuahuas where bigger than no one would bat an eye at pit bulls.

Thank you very much for the review! It is much appreciated!
This article is fairly well written. However, the title on this article is very misleading, and should be changed, as this feels more like opinion, not fact. Ilovemychicks08, Pampered Chicken Girl, and Patiocortunix in the comments section have pointed out the numerous problems with this article.

Thank you for the review!
I love Pitbulls. I’ve had several in my lifetime.
It’s not the amount of bites that is an issue, it is the damage done from the bites.
They are definitely different than other breeds and it is misleading to say it is the owner not the breed. I could go on and on about pitbull pros and cons. I understand they need supporters, but truthfully they are different to other breeds and should be treated as such.

Thank you Monica, it means a lot!
I completely agree with Pampered Chicken Girl.
Pit Bulls can be friendly, they can be amazing family dogs, they can, they can, they can. Thats the thing most pitties are from a shelter or breeder breeding them to be fearful and fight. Ethical American Staffordshire breeders dont allow these dogs to go to random homes that have no experience in a bully breed. Its not always the owners fault.
Most shelters are just hoping to find a home. I have met and been around pitties. My aunt has a pittie x lab she is friendly when muzzled but so unpredictable. Rescued from a shelter at 5 months you can see the fear in her eyes. Although she is loved.
So many dogs are in the wrong hands in being bred wrong. The reason there is so many dog bites.
I have a reactive Golden Retriever, you know how hard it is to see little kids say "aww i wish i could pet him" or "mom why is he muzzled". But its for his protection. I see dogs differently now. It wasnt my fault he is reactive its other dog owners as they let their dog off leash nearmine. I know the body language. Ive done in person training and online courses for dog behavior and training. Most pitties or bully breeds i see are always showing fearful body language. Or are reactive. But there are super friendly ones. I in no way hate the breed or any breed. But i hate to see more untrained dogs or more unethically bred dogs in this world. It hurts to see pitties chained up outside because its not what the person really wanted. What you see on the internet isnt what your going to get. Dogs have a history and they have genetics. Why Heelers nip its genetics. Why Border Collies stalk its genetics. Why Golden Retrievers fetch/hunt its genetics. Why American Bullies are bulky and have a instinct to protect its genetics. And all of that is trying to be bred out of theses breeds slowly by unethical breeding and causing more dogs to become aggressive.
I dont want this review to be took as hate. As im so glad you have had a wonderful experience with your pitties. And im glad they are sweet.
But they arent for everyone. And most dog bited are caused by untrained dogs in the wrong owners hands.

I fully agree that these dogs are not for everyone, absolutely! Maybe your opinion equates to more of a comment than a one star review though. Not intending that to sound mean by the way, I wish I could add emojis to make sure this comes across how it's intended!
I am, by no means, an expert of dogs, but as someone who has taken many courses in canine behavior, psychological, nutrition, training and spent many hours around many different dog breeds I feel it is my responsibility to leave this review. Not to be taken as rude but as help and a warning to others.

Please please please, we need to stop saying pit bulls are "no more dangerous then other breeds" they were bred to fight and be aggressive. Just as a retriever breed was bred to retrieve. A LGD breed was bred to guard. Does it mean ALL pit bulls will be aggressive? No. Does it mean they are more likely to become aggressive? Yes.
Of course a lot can be done by owners to help stop this from happening, their is plenty of irresponsible owners, but it doesn't change the facts.
On another note, yes pit bulls are unpredictable. On two levels. First off, ALL animals are unpredictable, even the best trained dog you've had for its whole life can snap. Secondly, their breed history unfortunately does add to this unpredictably.
I have met MANY wonderful pit bulls, I DO NOT hate this breed or have anything against them but we need to stop this over glorifying. They are not good for moms with children especially if the kids are young. They need an owner who has experience with similar breeds who can spend a lot of time training them, just as other "high risk" breeds do. My family has owned chow chows, a high risk breed, and even though we loved the breed we understood that they were at higher risk of biting. You HAVE to consider the breeds history.
On the bite statistics, unfortunately it is inaccurate, majority of dog bites do come from pit bulls. Yes they do get lumped, but they get lumped mostly with pit bull mixes.
My final thoughts, please do not glorify like this, it is unsafe and gets people who can not handle this breed to own them which only causes more issues for the dog and the people. They can be good dogs but you have to recognize the risk.

Thanks for the review. Unfortunately I now see that there is obviously no way we're going to see eye to eye on this. I am not going to argue with you because I've already made my point in my article. Like I've said to so many other people in the past, "The man with the experience is never subject to the man with the opinion," Once you've owned and have been around as many as I have then please come back and we'll talk about it. Have a great rest of your day,
~Grace
