Windy mountain tractor

I started building the base for a chicken tractor back in August 2017 while my wife was on maternity leave.... needless to say it was a busy time so it was delayed until November. My original plan was to put it on wheels but I decided skids would be easier and less expensive. The base is cedar but knowing it wouldn't hold up to dragging i put the base on treated 4x6's. The walls are normal stick framing and the building is sided in cedar shake panels(they were free!). I'm still deciding on nest boxes but due to how narrow the tractor is I'm thinking of going with some wall mounted roll outs. It is such a relief to have it mostly done and have all the girls out on grass. 20171219_170928.jpg 20171220_162138.jpg 20180110_214015.jpg 20171230_214012.jpg 20171223_134907.jpg 20171231_210912.jpg 20180123_144425.jpg 20180103_215803.jpg 20171223_100748.jpg 20180504_075058.jpg 20180514_175912.jpg 20180123_150812.jpg 20171223_142604.jpg 20180503_095517.jpg 20180514_174426.jpg 20180303_142222.jpg 20180225_143106.jpg 20171230_164942.jpg 20171231_215034.jpg 20171219_170928.jpg 20171220_162138.jpg 20180110_214015.jpg 20171230_214012.jpg 20171223_134907.jpg 20171231_210912.jpg 20180123_144425.jpg 20180103_215803.jpg 20171223_100748.jpg 20180504_075058.jpg 20180514_175912.jpg 20180123_150812.jpg 20171223_142604.jpg 20180503_095517.jpg 20180514_174426.jpg 20180303_142222.jpg 20180225_143106.jpg 20171230_164942.jpg 20171231_215034.jpg

Very nice build! Love the roof and how you framed in the walls on the sides of the 'patio/porch'.

Holy smokes man, I'm so jealous, impressed, speechless, wowed, and a bunch of other things. Since I'm doubling the size of my coop, basically making a mirror image addition, I'm looking a lot at what other people are doing. I'm curious about what you used as a cap on your roof. I may have to custom cut something because of the weird way I'm doing it. Thanks!

I just used to pieces of ridge cap from lowes.... but anyone selling roof metal will have them. I hope that helps!

When you use hurricane straps, do you completely eschew the fishmouth cuts on the rafters?

I think you can do either but I made the cuts.... not very precise but they worked. Angles aren't my thing so I just made it work.

There is a way to do those angle using the measurements on the speed square. I didn't feel like watching a YouTube video in the middle of my project so I also just winged it. Yours came out well. Nicely done.

I watched those videos the problem was using roof pitch to get my numbers.... instead of picking a pitch of apple easy number I had set my ridgebeam ti a height that I could stand inside without bumping my head so when it came time to measure my mouth cuts my numbers were not as easy to come up with, if that makes sense.
