Does anyone know a good place to get canadian geese? I live in PA. McMurray Hatchery sells them, I think only around this time of year but they are prohibitively expensive. You must buy 4 for $225 then it's $230 shipping to my area! That's quite a bit. They only sell juveniles. I'm sure that's why shipping is so expensive, are the goslings so fragile? I doubt it. They even have something that says buy one, get one free on their site but that doesn't kick in when you try to check out online. I'd love to have a pair though. Most people are annoyed by the wild ones but I like to watch and listen to them

I'd look around locally, surprising what you'd find. I was given a Canadian goose when her friend flew off but she stayed. I just love her, she is one of my best geese. She is fairly quiet, doesn't get into stuff and is in love with our GP dog. She doesn't like the other geese, she just follows the dog and if you make dog wimpering noises she starts talking and runs over.....

I purchased mine from Strombergs Hatchery. I paid $184 for 6 of them. They all arrived happy and healthy and have developed beautifully. I have had no problems at all. The only geese I have ever been exposed to before I got the Canadas were loud, obnoxious Chinese geese that chased me around as a kid. I have found the Canadas to be WONDERFUL pets. They are quiet except when we first go out to see them. Then they talk and chatter to greet us. They love to be with us and are a source of great pleasure for our family. Since I live in northern New Mexico, there are not too many Canadas, and so therefore are not really a pest here. Our birds are clipped and confined so that they do not become pests for someone else. I live in the city limits and the geese have grown and adjusted just fine. In New Mexico, you do have to have a permit to import them in from another state, plus another permit to own them. If you ever plan to sell or give away birds though, you are required to have a permit from the US Fish and Game Dept.

Thanks for all the info everyone. I didn't look at other hatcheries because I never saw them their before but they are seasonal, I guess. I currently have 5 White Chinese, so I really don't think they could be much louder than them!
 
Check the laws of your state to start. Here, no permit is needed to own them, but one is needed to "rehome" them in any way. I know a place I can get eggs or goslings in the spring just for taking them. It is a place where the goslings are a nuisance factor and the state does not care about them. I have not gotten any yet because I have not had the time to take care of them.

So ask around to know what the situation is in your area.

If you get any, remember they fly VERY well. LOL One of my half canadians overshot the pasture and landed in the middle of town one day.

Just because the State does not regulate them where you are, they don't have the final say in the matter. If someone turns you in to the Feds or they just take in their head to do something, You could answer the door to see a man say "We are from the Federal government and we are here to help you"
