For those raising heritage breeds for meat...

thanks for the posting i raise white leghorns for meat as my grandparents did i wish more people would raise heritage breeds instead of them mass produced factory cornish rocks it comes down to lazy ness to me

I somewhat agree, BH...but I personally believe that it all boils down to time. Nowadays, folks are always in a hurry, rushing to get everything done yesterday. That's why the heritage breeds aren't thought of as dual purpose anymore....most people don't have the time/don't want to wait for them to mature. I, myself, raised some Freedom Rangers last year, and will do so again this year. But when my heritage flocks are established, I'm going to raise my own stock that can benefit me in more ways than one.

I prefer to call it being efficient. Time is money, feed costs money. Progress. By the time your leghorns are out of the brooder, my broilers are in the freezer.

(don't take any offense to this reply, I didn't take any to yours

To me its all on personal preference!!! I like lots of flavor but the longer it takes for a bird to mature the more $$$ you put in it sometimes you can't get that back. If you kinda know what I am saying??? I prefere flavor but I hate losing my $$ ...
