I just applied four different colors of food dye into four different hen's vents. Does anyone else do this to help figure out who is laying which egg? I did basic green, red, blue and yellow. I figure that I could get those neon colors and get pink and purple too. I did this once before and it worked. Just wondering if its safe for the hen. How often would I have to do this? Every week? Is there a better way? I don't have trap nests but I have thought about it.

Hmmm.... never heard of that one.....

I'm thinking about doing that at Easter time - avoid the whole mess we make when dying eggs.

I have read that in a previous post or perhaps in some publication, not sure, but I have read about food coloring being used to identify layers eggs. Just a drop is supposed last for several days. I don't do it, but now I am going to try to find where I read that.

I think its kinda weird..sorry.
Wouldnt want to be one of those hens... just my opinion though..
