Who uses food coloring in vent?

Actually, I bought food coloring this weekend just to do this very same thing this week! I have 3 hens of the same breed and I want to keep the ones that lay the most "fun" looking eggs. I have 3 Welsummers and they lay dark brown speckled eggs, very pretty. Don't know if two or all 3 are laying.
One suggestion, if you have several of the same breeds, make sure you have some way of identifying them. I'm going to use legbands to ID the chicken/food coloring.

Don't think I will let my DH read this post...he had a Meniere's attack this morning and he is still not quite up to par.

I wish you and your husband the best. It sounds like an awful thing to have to deal with.

PS I really want to know how this works out for anyone that has tried it with the food coloring.

How did it go? I'm doing the same thing tomorrow w/my hens...do you put the color a little inside the vent or exterior area only? I work f/t and unfortunately have NO idea who lays what egg...when I come home from work they are all there...and in all I mean 3 out of 10 girls

I think I would have my wife put on the red lipstick,
thumbsup.gif
use the food coloring on some cake frosting,

put one of those hunting cameras on the nesting box,

crack open a bottle of wine, eat some cake with the wife,

(with the red lipstick), and check the camera the next morning.
