Who uses food coloring in vent?

Alright, I did this on Sun and today (Thurs ) there was the faintest of a single red mark on my egg today. I still knew it was the "red" hen that laid it! I am going to really today. I take the little McCormick squeeze bottle and stick the bottle head into the vent. Then squeeze a few squeezes into the vent of the hen. It is internally. Some may spill out so you need a towel underneath the hen. It can stain the feathers around the vent so I wouldn't do this to your show bird. The vent opening will look stained too.

Ummm...What's a "maggot bucket"? I'm sure it's exactly as it sounds but what would you use it for???

Shanon

It is a closed container with holes drilled in it. After adding leaf litter, you put in some cat food. Flies lay eggs, and he meat feeds the maggots. When they are ready to turn into flies, the maggots burrow down looking for dirt, but go through the holes and offering free protien for th chickens.

I did this on Saturday and so far, the eggs are not colored. I DID NOT put the the end of the bottle INTO the vent, I just did some drops onto the vent and of course it pulses a bit, but I guess it didn't draw the color in enough. I'll actually have to push the bottle in. My husband says "Yes, I'm pretty sure you have to violate them." Can't wait.

Are there any other methods? We've been isolating a chick to see if she's laying that day because we understand an egg a day is standard. those that arent laying eggs and going to the sale. doesn't make sense to purchase chickens to not have to purchase eggs but when they aren't doing their part, gotta do something with them.

I am not sure, but I am under the impression that hens do not lay every day! I have 12 hens, I get about 9 eggs a day and I know that they are all pretty much laying. (by the ones that are on the nest and the color of the eggs)

we have 9 layers we think and get 5 eggs a day. but now we've decided one may be a roo, which we don't want so i really have no clue....the only real way is to put them in a cage alone for a while and see what happens then huh?!?!?!?!
