i have a 9 month old red bourbon turkey hen. i have had her about 6 weeks. i have already lost her sister to what i feel was crd. after talking to my vet and the good folks on here. she is acting slugish, her poop was kinda watery, yellow and blackish. i able to catch her but she scratch me by kicking her legs, so not to week just acting different, i just dont want to loose any more. my tom is acting normal. not related and been here longer. am i acting crazy or could she be wormy. she is just not herself. i did see a little clear runny liquid come out of her rear. she is now on the high roost. and yes she is in with chickens and guineas. jsut at night, free range during the day.ok thats all. any help please.........

I am really not convinced that it's CRD... perhaps the respiratory symptoms were a secondary issue once the immune system was weakened. The yellow in the poop has me concerned. It usually means that something is affecting the liver. I don't suppose you did a necropsy on the hen that you lost?

You say that you had them for 6 weeks, did you have them in quarantine when you got them? And have you contacted whoever you got them from in case something is affecting their flock and they might be able to help?

So, if the poop is yellow and something is affecting the liver, what can be done? Can anything over the counter be given to the turkey or do they need to seek medical attention? I think I saw a little bit of yellow (not a lot) in my turkey's poop. His respiratory problem came back on last Monday but he is 95% better as of today. He still has a little crocked neck though. What can I do for the yellow poop, if I see that again? Thanks for the information. You always give out good info.

I'll start with an example... if a turkey has Mycoplasmosis (which can cause CRD), the Mycoplasmosis weakens the immune system and allows the turkey to get a bacterial infection. When you treat with Tylan, it helps clear up the infection but doesn't do anything to get rid of the Mycoplasmosis which is a virus. Once they get MG, MS, etc... they remain carriers.

One cause of yellow poop is Histomoniasis, Black Head. That can be treated with the antibiotic Metronidazole (sold in pet stores as fishzole). But other things can cause yellow poop as well, pretty much anything affecting the liver. One supplement used to help liver function is samE. I don't know if that is available in health stores?

One thing that did jump out at me... you mentioned a crooked neck? What exactly do you mean by that? There are some vitamin defiencies that can cause a crooked neck, but also some illness. Was that in the picture that you posted? I'll do a bit or research and see if I find anything...

The crooked neck is not as bad as the last pic that I posted. It's more like this pic below. He only gets it when he gets a respiratory problem. I will research the samE for the liver problem.

This is a terrible pic but the neck is more like a S shape kinda sorta perhaps maybe.

Was it twisted around before? I think I read something about treating with vitamin E and selinium before... If it was you can look up 'wry neck' and see what you find...

Are tom was sick the same way we had him in with some chickens and ducks .WE put him in his own spot, and my daughter had read something about paprika helping out. So we dumped a lot of it in his water and he slowly got better. Its worth a try. I hope she gets better.

The last time that he had a twisted/crooked neck was 14 months ago when he had a respiratory problem. After I treated him, his neck straigthened up. On last Monday, when he got another respiratory problem, his neck went back to a twisted/crooked neck. He only gets this when he gets a respiratory problem. Other than that, his neck is straight. I know that it can't be an injury because there is NOTHING bigger than him out there in the chicken yard. The other animals will not mess with him. He is tame and he does not bother anyone, so he doesn't pick fights and no one fights him.

See this pic of him below when he is not sick. His neck is STRAIGHT.
