well i am not one to give up. but 300.00 dollars in turkeys and gas to get them and all i have left is one wonderful tom. and to know this could have been treated realy sucks. they are doing more testing on the hen, but at first opening her up they saw signs of blackhead. i have safeguard here, tommy boy is getting a dose in the am, going to pet store and get some fish zole, and sat travelling 2 and half hours into kentucky for three 10 month old hens i just found on craigslist. there goes another 100.00 and i am going to lime,7 dust, and permithrin spray there isloation pen. top bottom sides. i new she was sick i just didnt know what to do. right now tom is in with the chickens and guineas. only to roost, there are free during daylight hrs.thanks all, gobble gobble

I would build him a separate area, as when they are confined together it is more likely the turkey will ingest poo from a contaminated chicken etc( chickens can be carriers but not be sick from it)... and start the process in the gut.
Glad to hear you are not giving up.......... at least now you know what to look for.

Yes best not to MIXES turkey with chicken, a chicken is one carrier of blackhead......My guess your chicken have blackhead ,it will not harm the chicken, but kill turkey and peafowl.

My peacocks are in a separate pen from the chickens and turkeys. I will have to build another pen for the turkeys. Everyone free ranges on about 1 acre of property. But, they all sleep in closed proximty coops and houses. I won't be able to sleep until I take care of my turkey problem.

Don't give up bigdawg. Just re-group and come out fighting. You can get pass this. I hate that you had to lose your turkeys in the process.

Most don't , just become carriers.

More danger when penned together...less if free range.....just watch and treat for it if it happens.

So do you think that the turkeys would be ok free ranging and just locking them up at night in separate pens. The turkey hens usually roost in the pecan trees and on top of the chicken houses. The Tom likes sleeping on the ledge of the chicken coop, which would explain why HE IS SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got some fresh poop from my Tom tonight. I inspected it but I didn't see any small, medium or large worms. Does it look like anything is wrong with his poop?
